If you a helping professional in the Jacksonville, Florida area in need of an office, we have a great office space available for rent!

The office is conveniently located in Mandarin, near the Ace Hardware & Julington Creek Bridge, making it accessible to patients coming from Jacksonville, St. Johns County & Clay County. The office is in a small office park with ample parking spaces.

The office is just shy of 11’x12’ (just under 132 square feet). We are pediatric psychologists who maintain a safe, comfortable, smoke-free, family-friendly office suite.

Rent of $750/month includes use of all common areas (waiting room, reception, bathroom & kitchenette) as well as the unfurnished office. Use of internet & reasonable use of general office supplies (including printing) are also included. We are looking for someone interested in renting the space for a minimum of 3 months.

As are pediatric psychologists, our primary commitment is to our patients & their families. It is important that we maintain a safe, confidential space for the young people we serve. As such, we will need to run a background check before finalizing any rental agreement.

Please contact us by DM if you are interested in renting the space.

If you feel your child needs more support at school but are unsure of what to do next, check out our self-paced course for parents. We are Nautilus Behavioral Health, a small woman-owned private practice offering therapy & assessment services for children, adolescents, young adults, & their families in Mandarin.

In this course, Dr. Lisa Bailey will walk you through the process of requesting & receiving an Individualized Education Program (IEP) from start to finish. Press & hold the QR code in this post to go directly to the course. Not only is it filled with useful information, it includes the resources you need to take action, such as sample letters to send to your child’s school to request an IEP & a year-end log to help you review & reflect on your child’s academic experience, strengths & weaknesses.

Time for a reality check from child psychologists. High stakes school testing doesn’t actually tell us about student learning, engagement, talents, or growth.

High stakes tests aren’t developed in the same way as the one-on-one individualized assessment tests that we use when we conduct assessments. They aren’t administered in the ideal setting for each child. They don’t take into account context (e.g., developmental history, learning history, mental health, neurodiversity, specific learning disabilities, etc). They don’t yield results that help us understand how to help bring out the best in students.

So, although they are a required part of many students’ lives, a ton of pressure is put on students (& their teachers) to perform well, they aren’t actually useful & they don’t really reflect student strengths & academic skills.

Is it ever a bad thing to go above & beyond? Sure it is- especially if it takes a toll on you!

Sometimes the things we feel, believe & do makes our lives harder. This isn’t something we intentionally do. Instead, sometimes we have the best of intentions, but we over-commit, over-explain, over-apologize &/or over-achieve. All of these ways of overdoing it can create a lot of unnecessary stress, anxiety & pressure on ourselves!

So does that mean we should always say “no,” never explain ourselves, never apologize, & just do the bare minimum?

Of course not. There’s a time & place for going above & beyond. Many of us just feel driven to ALWAYS go above & beyond. If that’s the case, maybe it’s time to step back & evaluate whether this is the time, place, & situation for going above & beyond.

By all means, take responsibility & do your best. Just recognize that not everything is your responsibility & not every task merits your full effort. Recognize that it’s okay to say “no” without justifying yourself. Ask yourself whether you’re genuinely sorry & whether you truly have something about which to be sorry.

If you’re someone who tends to overdo it, drop a ❤️ in the comments section or like this post!

Last week, I posted a reel about how brave it is to seek support when you find out someone you care about is hurting themself or wants to kill themself.

Today, we’re sharing a post with some simple steps you can follow to help someone in this situation. We also included general crisis resources & some crisis resources for specific groups.

And let’s be real: there’s A LOT going on in the world right now. Someone you know may very well need some extra support or YOU may need help dealing with overwhelming or scary feelings.

Please feel free to share these resources with anyone who may need them. Use them if you need them. And please take care of each other. These resources are current as of March 2025.

Why do some people struggle in silence?

Sometimes, it’s genuinely about them- their interpersonal style, the nature of their struggles, their will to keep things to themselves.

But some times, it’s about other people. When people fear judgment or feel ashamed about how they feel or what they’re struggling with, they are unlikely to reach out & ask for help, even when they desperately need it.

We are all going through life, largely unaware of what other people are dealing with. And because of that, sometimes we make off-hand comments or say things without thinking. We may realize we are being unkind, but we don’t necessarily stop & think how our words may be really hurtful.

Instead of saying whatever comes to mind just because we can, let’s start a movement of kindness. Just be kind. It’s not that hard. And if you don’t have something kind to say…well, maybe silence is the kind thing to share in that situation.

When we put that kind of energy out in the world, when we share kindness openly & regularly, that lets people know that they are safe with us, that they can be themselves with us, that they can talk with us.

So whether we are talking about kids & teens or friends or family, be the reason that someone else feels supported!

Does acknowledging you know your worth seem like bragging to you?

Many of us learned to be humble as we grew up. And don’t get me wrong- there’s nothing wrong with being humble.

But there’s a difference between bragging constantly & being able to toot your own horn.

Here’s a quote from Ava, the work-in-progress principal of Abbott Elementary. Ava may cross that line from knowing her worth to straight up bragging sometimes. She gets this right, though.

Know you’re enough!

When you’re going through a rough patch, ever think, “why me?”

It can be easy to think that everyone else has it easier or better than we do. When we follow that line of thought, it can lead us to take our frustrations out on others.

The truth is that everyone is going through something. Even the people whose lives look perfect on the outside are experiencing distress or adversity.

Life is hard. So just be kind. It isn’t hard & it may make someone else’s day. It will also help YOU feel better to put some good in the world.
