Here's a helpful tip on bandaging from Marcy, one of our Certified Lymphedema Therapists:

When managing Lymphedema, patients are frequently instructed to use bandaging as a way to decrease the amount of swelling they have before they are fitted for custom compression garments or as a strategy to help reduce transient swelling once well managed. It can be confusing what types of bandages to use if you haven't been instructed and educated in them, so the team provided some information about ACE Wraps (which should never be used to treat Lymphedema) versus Short Stretch Bandages (which are a key component to proper Lymphedema management).

Our patient Camey had surgery with us earlier this year and again late last month. She gifted the team with the delivery of a most delicious lunch last week! Here's what she shared:

Veterans Day is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, honoring military veterans of the United States Armed Forces. We thank and salute past and present military members and their families. We'd like to recognize Bianca for her service in the U.S. Navy and Sam's husband Josh for his service in the U.S. Coast Guard.

This year, we remember our veterans with a view from Veterans Park Auditorium in Culver City, CA. We salute you.

We wanted to share a little behind the scenes look of the operating room today. It's an insider's view thanks to Bianca, our OR nurse. Our cool time-lapse video is a snippet from our bigger Dr. G overview video found on our In the Media page @ https://lymphedemasurgeon.com/lymphedema-in-the-media/.

Members of the team typically arrive at the OR at least 90 minutes prior to the scheduled surgery start time, with Bianca usually the first person to arrive. Everything in the room is wiped down to ensure that all of the equipment required that day is present and operating properly. The room is supplied with plenty of padding and positioning aids to ensure the patient is comfortable for the length of the surgery. All sterile products and instruments are prepped and placed next to the surgical table, and a count for most items that will be utilized during surgery is taken. The anesthesia team performs its own safety checks on their machines and preps medications prior to administering.

All of these items are completed before the patient enters the OR to ensure we have everything we need to safely and properly perform the procedure.

As a member of the Physicians Giving Society, Dr. Granzow recently pledged a donation to the Ascension St. Vincent's Foundation. The Foundation's mission is to provide compassionate, spiritually centered care for people in Northeast FL and Southeast GA. Ascension St. Vincent's is named a top 15 health system in the country and where Dr. G has performed many surgeries at their St. Johns County location since arriving in Jacksonville over 5 years ago.

We didn't want to let the month slip by without reminding everyone that even though October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we all need to continue to do our part to encourage friends, relatives and followers all year to get tested regularly. This year's awareness month theme emphasizes that every story is unique and every journey matters, focusing on the personal and diverse experiences that have touched all of us.

Last Monday and Tuesday, all members of Team Granzow joined together in Jacksonville to reflect on the past, learn about our future and bond with colleagues at assorted team building meetings and exercises. Between general meetings held at the office, to fun events like bowling and cookie decorating (steady hands and creativity required), we all shared a great time learning more about one another and renewing an even stronger, more cohesive team spirit to serve and inform our patients.

A special shoutout to Cookie Studio Jax who did a fantastic job with our creative cookie making kits.

Earlier this week the team joined together to present Amy & Dr. Granzow with a cute Boss's Day gift. As a team, we couldn't be more grateful to work for the Granzows.
