Mary Frackowiak, clinical manager for our robust mobile care division, recently hosted breakfast du jour for residents and providers at Cypress Village, one of Jacksonville’s retirement communities including independent, assisted living, memory and long-term care.

ACHILLES TENDINITIS

Working out is challenging under the best of circumstances, but if you suffer from Achilles tendinitis it can be downright painful. A common overuse injury among athletes occurs when the tendon that connects your heel with your calf muscles becomes swollen and painful due to repeated strain.

Plantar Fasciitis is No Joke!

All about the Achilles.

Achilles tendinitis is an injury to the Achilles tendon, which connects the calf muscles to the heel bone. It can result from overuse, insufficient rest, or without a clear cause.

This condition, also known as Achilles tendinopathy, commonly affects runners who have increased their running intensity or duration and middle-aged individuals playing weekend sports like tennis or basketball.

At-home care, with guidance from us, includes wearing a night splint, CAM boot or may require physical therapy, special shoes or orthotics. However, severe cases may lead to tears (ruptures) might require surgery. Call us today at 904-323-0954.

Ankle sprains can be worse than breaks. Don’t power through the pain, thinking it will get better on its own.

Inversion and Eversion Sprains occur when ligaments supporting the ankle are stretched or torn, because of a sudden twist or turn. Symptoms include pain, swelling, and difficulty walking.

Treatment typically involves rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE), wearing a CAM boot or ankle brace, orthotics, physical therapy and possibly surgery depending on the severity.

Not treated properly, the symptoms won’t go away and could possibly cause future strength and mobility issues.

Dr. Candice Kennedy, TFC founder, presented on Wednesday June 5 at Vicar’s Landing, Ponte Vedra. Residents from both the Oak Bridge and Sawgrass communities attended to learn about common foot and ankle problems as part of a monthly speaker series. Vicar’s Landing is part of Total Foot Care’s robust mobile care division.

A highlight of the discussion was the introduction of Physiologic Insulin Resensitization (PIR), scientific treatment formulated to address insulin resistance, a condition that can lead to type 2 diabetes and other metabolic diseases including Parkinson’s.
