Milene Isla walked into our newest HCA Florida Merrill Road Emergency (ER) not realizing that her cousin would be our first patient on our opening day. Milene felt it was important to have a doctor check her cousin’s high blood pressure and insisted she visit an urgent care or ER. “This (Merrill Road) ER is nearby and it was just the right place to come to. We are happy you opened today! Everything is very nice, new and amazing here.”

NOW OPEN: HCA Florida Merrill Road Emergency (ER) officially opened today at 7am, at 8100 Merrill Road, Jacksonville, FL 32277, welcoming patients in the Arlington area. The ER is west of Interstate 295, next to a RaceTrac gas station across from Merrill Station Shopping Center, anchored by a Walmart neighborhood. Within HCA Florida Healthcare, our freestanding ERs treat the same clinical conditions as emergency rooms within hospital facilities regardless of patients’ insurance status or ability to pay.

“The goal of our new freestanding emergency room is to provide better access for patients needing emergency care right where they need in it in the Arlington area,” said Reed Hammond, Chief Executive Officer of HCA Florida Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. “As a part of HCA Florida Healthcare, the largest healthcare system in Florida, we are meeting our patients in their community providing the closest ER access for them.”

Some medical emergencies that require a trip to an ER or FSER include:
Suspected heart attack
Suspected stroke
Trouble breathing
Severe allergic reactions
Broken bones
Severe burns
Deep wounds with heavy bleeding
High fever

Baby boy Camden was born on January 1, 2026 and is HCA Florida Memorial Hospital’s first baby of the new year, arriving at 5:02 a.m. measuring 20.5 inches, weighing 7 pounds. As the clock struck 5:02am, Jacksonville welcomed Camden into a fresh year filled with endless possibilities. He made his grand entrance surrounded by a festive New Year’s hat, noisemaker, wearing his special New Year Baby onesie and a bow tie to top it off perfectly capturing the joy of this occasion.

In a candid moment - he is seen yawning wide as if to say, “I’m ready for all that life has to offer!” This delightful snapshot showcases not only his adorable personality but also his readiness to take on the adventures that 2026 will bring.

Camden’s dad Camiel and mom Skylar are excited for the future of their new beginning and new family.

Knee pain is a common symptom that can be caused by anything from sports injuries to arthritis. You can usually treat hip pain at home with self-care measures. One of the ways we show up for our Florida communities is by supporting local food banks, pantries and soup kitchens. Throughout the year, our colleagues volunteer their time and donate resources to help families facing food insecurity.

Recently, HCA Florida Memorial Hospital donated thousands of dollars — and a canned food sculpture — to the St. Johns Food Pantry. Our sculpture of the St. Augustine Lighthouse & Maritime Museum won the HCA South Atlantic Division contest and placed second runner‑up nationally among more than 190 hospitals.

It was an emotional moment as St. Johns Food Pantry’s Jon Gorecki accepted our $15,000 check, presented by Chief Operating Officer Chris Kovacs. The 15‑foot‑tall lighthouse, built from 1,400 cans and weighing more than 900 pounds, will be on display this weekend before being donated to the pantry next week — just in time for the holidays.

The St. Johns Food Pantry provides meals to more than 150 people per day, helping feed 750 people each week and more than 3,000 each month. We’re proud to support food‑insecure families in this small but meaningful way.
