47-year-old Brian Jones of Bloomingdale, GA, was having difficulty breathing and says he was "carried by angels" to HCA Florida Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville. Brian describes it as "God's hands" that brought him to interventional cardiologist Dr. Mohannad Bisharat and his team - who quickly learned Brian had blood clots located inside his heart.

"It is definitely God's work. We were meant to be right here. It is mind boggling what took place for me. I have no words. What Dr. Bisharat did was nothing short of a miracle to intricately remove more than 15 blood clots from inside my heart - avoiding open heart surgery. He did everything to ensure my safety and speedy recovery. I get so emotional thinking about the magnitude of everything coming together just for me. My wife Olivia and I feel overwhelming gratitude for Dr. Bisharat and his team at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital," said Brian.

A locomotive engineer of 25 years, Brian has plenty to live for starting with his family of five. "I am so thankful to each person from those many teams that saved my life."

Spotted walking through the hospital lobby carrying 100 roses...Safdar Pooya was on his way to make a special delivery. His wife, Aziza, had just given birth to their first child, a boy weighing in at 9.15 pounds. Little Kijan was delivered at HCA Florida Memorial Hospital by OBGYN Dr. Daniel McDyer who bumped into Safdar and thought some of the roses were for him. Not!

Safdar, Aziza and her mother Mahboba Haidari migrated from Afghanistan a few years ago, and the family couldn't be prouder of their move to Jacksonville - now marked by this special milestone day. "Everything was so good here, we loved nurses Annalyce and Cayanthia who made it such a great experience with their smiles and positive energy. The staff had so much more experience than we could have imagined, such extensive knowledge and it immediately made us feel especially comfortable and happy with our decision to come to HCA Florida Memorial Hospital," said Safdar.

"They made me feel special. For our next baby, we will definitely come back here. I'll also want more flowers!" said a very overjoyed Aziza.

Congratulations on your bundle of happiness. Safdar did more than good with 100 flowers. He raised the bar!

Our hospital Volunteer, Felton Brown, saved the life of a person experiencing a stroke…the video shares his humble story.

Volunteers are the heart of Memorial Hospital. They are often the first point of contact for many of our guests, whether someone is visiting a loved one or seeking care for themselves.

Here at Memorial, our volunteers are more than just greeters, they are trained to recognize when guests may need urgent assistance. Such as, if a visitor begins showing the warning signs of a stroke our volunteers know how to respond F.A.S.T. (Face drooping, Arm weakness, Speech difficulty, Time to call 911). This quick action can truly make the difference between life and death. It’s a reminder that volunteering isn’t just about service with a smile, it’s about being in tune with the needs of our community.

Why volunteer with us?
· Just 4 hours a week makes a life-changing impact
· Enjoy a free meal
· Play a vital role by:
o Offering directions and guiding guests
o Assisting in the Gift Shop
o Providing courtesy cart rides from the parking lot
o Recognizing and responding to guests in need of services

By joining our auxiliary team, you’ll be part of a mission that is bigger than any one of us, bringing comfort, safety, and support to every guest who walks through our doors.

Ready to serve your community in a meaningful way? Call us at (904) 702-6101 today!

Want to get ahead of potential heart problems with a simple screening? According to the American Heart Association, 350,000 Americans die from a cardiac arrest each year. Coronary calcium scoring is a quick, non-invasive cardiac exam that can give valuable insight into your heart health.

The inexpensive, elective screening measures the amount of calcium-containing plaque in a person’s arteries. Plaque buildup inside the arteries can grow and restrict blood flow, leading to a heart attack or other heart issues. Watch our video to learn more.

At 43, Renota Wheaton suffered a stroke in her bathroom earlier this morning around 6a.m. but her two teenage sons, Cameron (14) and Clarance (15) heard strange struggling sounds from their mother and called out to her to see if she was ok. Realizing something was wrong...911 was their next move. Renota was brought to HCA Florida Memorial Hospital paralyzed on her left side displaying classic signs of a stroke. Neurointerventionalist Dr. Ravi Pande was in the Emergency Room to receive her when EMS brought her in. After a fast surgical intervention, he removed a clot and saw immediate recovery as Renota started to move her left arm which was previously paralyzed. Thanks to the quick actions of both her sons, she is expected to make a full recovery because they moved fast. Time = Brain.

Know the symptoms of a stroke: F.A.S.T. Look for Facial drooping, weakness in Arms, slurred Speech and Time to call 911- fast! Thanks to the excellent teams from EMS to the ER, Dr. Pande, anesthesiologists, interventional radiology technologists and nurses, surgical techs and nursing staff in the ICU, for always caring like family to help provide our patients with the best chances for healing and making a recovery.

HCA Florida Memorial Hospital is proud to be one of 300 comprehensive stroke centers in America, providing the highest level of stroke care.

At HCA Florida Healthcare, demonstrating our commitment to communities means investing in their future — and that begins with supporting our youth. Through our continued partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America across the state, we are proud to back programs and spaces that help children and teens grow, succeed, and dream bigger.

As part of Day 2 of our , HCA Florida Kendall Hospital sponsored a total renovation of the playroom at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade. This space has now been transformed into a colorful, safe, and inviting environment where kids can play, learn, and form lifelong friendships. The joy on the children’s faces and the heartfelt gratitude from Club staff served as reminders of the power of community and connection.

Our commitment to the next generation goes beyond early childhood. Through initiatives like The Pathway to Success program, we help prepare teens for college and careers by giving them first-hand experiences in healthcare. In partnership with organizations like the Boys & Girls Club of Central Florida, students participate in job shadowing, hands-on demonstrations, and one-on-one discussions with HCA Florida Healthcare professionals. These experiences inspire students and open doors to future opportunities, providing the tools and encouragement they need to move forward confidently.

Whether it’s through renovating spaces that foster creativity or providing career-building opportunities, we are proud to support the next generation as they discover their potential. Discover the continual impact HCA Florida Healthcare is making on the Sunshine State: https://bit.ly/40EAGF2.

Today marks the start of our — a time to pause, reflect and honor how our more than 84,000 colleagues and 11,100 physicians care for our patients and communities.

One of those moments came when Stephen Cloutier collapsed before a routine pickleball game. He wasn’t breathing.

His partner, Eliza Duade, recognized the signs of cardiac arrest, called 911, and began CPR. Paramedics rushed Stephen to HCA Florida Englewood Hospital. Stephen was taken to the cardiac catheterization lab and closely monitored in the intensive care unit.

“They were prepared. There was someone with him every step of the way,” said Eliza. “I know it’s their job, but to us, it’s a miracle.”

Thanks to Eliza’s quick action and expert care, Stephen made a remarkable recovery — and soon returned to the court.

Cardiac arrest strikes without warning, but immediate CPR can double or triple survival odds. As Florida’s largest cardiovascular network, we’re here to keep heart care close to home.
