Lucille 'Lucy' McDonald

Lucille Aldaige McDonald, a devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, in her home in Dublin, NH surrounded by her family, after a long period of declining health.

'Lucy' was born on November 28, 1941, daughter of the late Alfred and Cecile (Metivier) Pellerin. She lived a meaningful life, marked by her unwavering love and dedication to her family and her Catholic faith. She was raised on a farm in Dublin and graduated from Peterborough High School in Peterborough, NH. She married Brian McDonald on May 21, 1960, and had two children, Penelope and Christopher.

During her life Lucy worked numerous jobs. She is often remembered for the former Dublin Oil Company. Originally owned and operated by Alfred and Cecile Pellerin, the Dublin Oil Company started around 1946, and after the Pellerin's retired, around 1976, Brian and Lucy took over the business and operated it until it was sold in 1988.

After the sale of the business, Lucy began working at the First National Bank of Peterborough, first as a teller, and later moving up the ranks to become a customer service representative where she became known for her warmth, dedication, and exceptional customer service. She remained there through many of the bank's transitions until her retirement. She is remembered as being the first woman selectman in Dublin of which she often recounted greeting President Ford. She was an active member of the Dublin Women's Club and the Red Hats Ladies Club.

Lucy loved spending time with her family and her companion, Roger Henry. She liked to cook, read, knit, and sew. While her husband Brian was alive, she enjoyed camping and spending time in their homes in Maine and Florida. In the past ten years she enjoyed watching the manatees and going for boat rides in Florida with her companion. She was fond of watching the deer and cardinals at her companions' home in Ohio. She loved Christmas and was enthusiastic about Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, creating special memories with her family since the first time the tv special aired.

She will be remembered for carrying on a family tradition that her parents began in 1962 when they started displaying the outdoor crèche on Main Street in Dublin. This tradition was a dream of her father's that continues to this day.

She was a nurturing and devoted mother to her children. She is survived by her children Penelope Briggs and husband Mark Briggs, and Christopher McDonald and his fiancé Erika Anderson and by her brother-in-law Jim McDonald and his wife Kris. She is also survived (and known as "Bambi") by her grandchildren Jennifer Evers and her husband Justin Evers, Eric Briggs, Megan Briggs, Andrew Briggs, Lucille Briard and her spouse Emma Briard, Henry McDonald, and Josephine McDonald, and great-granddaughters, Cecilia Evers and Catherine Evers. Lucy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Brian McDonald, brother William Pellerin, sister Elaine Durkee, grandson Alfred Briggs, and her parents Alfred and Cecile Pellerin.

The family wishes to thank Home Healthcare, Hospice & Community Services, particularly Nancy, Amy, and VJ, and JJ Bernier of Oak Ridge Excavation for his continued assistance with the crèche throughout the years. They also want to thank Fr. Arokia and the entire Divine Mercy family for all of the prayers and visits, and for the outpouring of love and support during this time of loss. Lucy's legacy of kindness and her unwavering commitment to her family will forever be cherished by those who knew and loved her.

Friends and family are warmly invited to calling hours on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452.

John E. Wassmer

John E. Wassmer, 70, passed away on March 9, 2026, in Lebanon, New Hampshire. Born on May 16, 1955, in New York City, New York, John was the beloved son of the late Eugene and Arietta (Pfeiffer) Wassmer.

John grew up in the Bronx and attended Sts. Philip & James School before continuing his education at Cardinal Hayes High School. His formative years in New York shaped his character and instilled in him a love for learning and a sharp wit that would remain with him throughout his life.

John was known for his adventurous spirit and diverse interests. He found joy in camping and canoeing, embracing the tranquility of nature and the camaraderie of outdoor adventures. A dedicated martial artist, he practiced Taekwondo with discipline and passion, becoming a black belt and an instructor. John also had a love for debating, relishing the opportunity to engage in thoughtful discussions and share his unique perspective with others.

Those who knew John remember him for his unyielding dedication to his Catholic Faith, which he put first and foremost in his life. His love of the Trinity, of Jesus Christ, of the Virgin Mary, and the saints both impelled him to share that Faith with those he met and gave him an inflexible moral compass.

A generous soul who consistently put the needs of others above his own, his selflessness was matched only by his incredible sense of humor, which brought laughter and light to those around him.

John is survived by his loving sister Janet and brother, James as well as his cherished nieces and nephews: Gene, Lynne Marie, Victor, George, Joseph, Christina, Lisa, Mark, Brian, Kayla, and Emily, and his sister’s in-law, Lourdes and Marta. He was predeceased by his brothers Eugene Wassmer and Joseph Wassmer.

John’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him. May his legacy of faith, kindness, and laughter continue to inspire all who remember him.

Calling hours will be held on Monday, March 23, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00PM in Saint Joseph Hall at Saint Benedict Center, 95 Fay Martin Road, Richmond, NH 03470.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 9:00AM in St. Stanislaus Church, 82 Richmond Rd, Wi******er, NH 03470.

Burial will take place in the spring in the Burial Grounds at Saint Benedict Center in Richmond, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s name to the Good Neighbor Fund, PO Box 486, Jaffrey, NH 03452.

All those who read this are asked to pray for the repose of John’s soul — at least one Ave. May Our Lord and Our Lady quickly deliver him from Purgatory if he yet has any temporal punishment due to sin to undergo. “It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins” (2 Machabees 12:46).

Lorraine 'Toot' Parent

Lifelong Jaffrey resident, Lorraine 'Toot' Parent, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, after a period of declining health, with loved ones by her side.

Lorraine was born in Jaffrey, on October 24, 1927, to parents Hector and Caroline (Foisey) Parent. Her parents, a sister, Elizabeth 'Charlotte' Parent, and brothers Francis, Elliott, and Frank, all predeceased her.

As a big, loving part of several generations of families in Jaffrey, Toot participated in all their festivities and gatherings. Toot’s ability to tell a story and explain the familial connections of all the families involved was unparalleled. Some recollections she loved to regale the family with was her youth spent on North and Peterborough Streets, playing basketball at Conant High School (a sport she enthusiastically supported all her life), dancing at Winchendon and Lake Contoocook dance halls (harmonizing with friends on the way), and working in the office at D.D. Bean & Sons. Over the years her parties were legendary: her and her sister’s annual Fourth of July event, Halloween parties, and Thanksgiving with her pork stuffing and tourtières (“too-kays”). She was an active member of St. Patrick Parish all her life. To say she remained active always is an understatement – visiting with friends, taking trips to experience the world, attending special events with all her families, and participating in town occasions.

Often without being asked, Toot offered her assistance in many ways to her friends, her families, her church, and her neighbors, at any time of day. She would say that she was “always on call”. She could strike up a conversation with a complete stranger and leave them smiling.

Celebrating her life and remembering how she touched so many in the community will happen on Thursday, April 9, 2026, beginning at 11:00AM, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452 and a reception immediately following Mass. Complete information will be announced at Mass. Burial will take place in the Spring at St. Patrick Cemetery in Jaffrey.

In lieu of flowers, Toot requested memorial donations be made to either St. Patrick Parish, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452 or to the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, PO Box 107, Jaffrey, NH 03452.

Vernon 'S***t' F. Stauffeneker Jr.

Vernon Floyd Stauffeneker Jr., 79, known as S***t to most, passed away on March 4th at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, New Hampshire. After a brief battle with various illnesses, he passed away peacefully while surrounded by family and friends.

S***t was born on May 26th, 1946, in Cortland, New York to his parents, Vernon Stauffeneker Sr., and Lila Niemi. He was one of (8) children that included (2) boys, and (6) girls.

S***t attended Ithaca high school where he met the love of his life, Katherine Mary Robinson. The two were married on May 9th, 1964, in Dryden, New York, just a few weeks before his 18th birthday. After the wedding the couple relocated to Southern New Hampshire where they welcomed their first child, a daughter, later that year. This was the first of many and the beginning of S***t and Kathy’s family legacy.

As a young husband and father S***t worked in multiple fields to support his family. His career included being a brick layer, a police officer, and a supervisor where he managed the construction of many commercial buildings all over the Northeast. In 1992, S***t and a business partner purchased a fiberglass factory in Northeastern Vermont, where he became a resident for nearly 30 years, before ultimately relocating back to Southern New Hampshire for the remainder of his days.

There are many things that made S***t a tremendously special man that will be remembered fondly by many. He was known to have a tough and stubborn exterior, but those who knew him know that inside he was a kind, caring, gracious, and protective man who loved his wife and children more than anything else. He had a great sense of humor and a belly laugh that could fill a room, always making it difficult not to laugh along with.

While he was an extremely hard-working man that insisted on nothing being done half-way, he was also an avid outdoorsman during his downtime. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed that time in the woods, or on the water, with his closest friends and family. He loved sports. He was proud of his athleticism and enjoyed competing in his younger years. He loved watching and rooting for the New York sports teams that he grew up with, but even more than that he loved watching his children, and then grandchildren, compete in the sports of their choosing. While he was reserved about his own accomplishments, he was less shy while sharing stories with others about the accomplishments of his children, on or off the field, always with a big smile to show just how proud of them he was.

S***t is survived by his wife, Kathy Stauffeneker; children, Tracy Seppala, Annette (David) Onkalo, Dutch (Kristen) Stauffeneker, Emily (Larry) Questad, Gretchen (Jon) Hill, Betsy (Dan) Lambert, Ester (Daniel) Lawn, Diane (David) Bilodeau, Andrea (John) Gould, Chris (Sonia) Stauffeneker; grandchildren (57); great-grandchildren (76); siblings, Linda Coleman, Eileen Seppala, Pete Stauffeneker, Janice Parkonen, Amy Troxell.

He was preceded in death by parents, Vernon and Lila Stauffeneker; siblings, Anne Olson, Sheila Sauvola; children, Marjorie Mattila; sons-in-law, Mark Mattila, Bradley Seppala; grandchildren, Max Mattila, Katie Mattila, Marcie Mattila, Adam Mattila; great-grandchild, Indie Hill;

Calling Hours will be held at Hope Fellowship Church, 16 Prescott Road, Jaffrey, NH on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.

A funeral service will immediately follow calling hours, beginning at 5:30pm. Burial will take place at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in S***t’s name to the Community Hospice House located at 210 Naticook Road, Merrimack, NH 03054.
