Yoga doesn’t begin or end with shapes, but with relationship — to ourselves, to one another, to the world.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Rooted in the Yamas with Nikki McMaster-Martorano is a gentle, grounding exploration of yoga’s ethical foundations — the Yamas — practiced not as theory, but as lived experience.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Through breath, reflection, and intentional movement, we’ll explore what it means to:
soften harm, meet truth, move from enoughness, honor our energy, and loosen the grip of striving.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
No performance. No perfection. Just presence.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This workshop is for anyone curious about deepening their practice beyond asana and engaging yoga as a philosophical, relational tradition — one that asks not just how we move, but how we live.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Includes a take-home workbook and an optional 15-minute follow-up check-in with Nikki to continue the conversation.

Starting in 2024, 100% of the teacher and studio profits from our Tuesday 6 PM class with were donated to supporting medical evacuations and humanitarian aid for Palestinians. Together, we raised $20,000. As we transition this class back to a regular mixed-level offering, we want to acknowledge what this community made possible. Your practice and your care extended far beyond the walls of the studio. We recognize that humanitarian conditions remain dire in Gaza and the West Bank, and that the need for safety, dignity, and freedom is ongoing. While this particular fundraising chapter is closing, our commitment to collective liberation does not end here.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yoga is, at its heart, a science of liberation. It teaches us not only how to love one another but that we are each other. This leaves no one outside of our circle of care.

We’re thrilled to welcome guest teacher Miles Borrero for two special offerings — a heart-opening evening of Kirtan and an embodied, deeply supportive fascia self-massage workshop — later this month.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🎶 Kirtan with Miles Borrero + Justin Green | Saturday February 28th 7:30-9:00 PM
In a time when so much pulls us apart, gathering in song can be a powerful act of connection. Kirtan is a traditional yogic practice of call-and-response chanting that invites us to use our voices, listen deeply, and experience collective presence. Through rhythm, music, and storytelling, this practice supports meditation, soothes the nervous system, and nurtures a profound sense of belonging. All are welcome — including kiddos — and no experience is needed.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌀 Fascia Embodied: Self-Massage Using Yoga Props | Sunday March 1st 1:00-3:00 PM
Movement supports our bodies in so many ways — and sometimes adding intentional self-massage can create even more space, relief, and resilience. In this accessible, all-levels workshop, Miles will guide participants through effective self-massage techniques using familiar yoga props, working along fascial pathways to support mobility, ease tension, and invite breath into places that need care. Expect thoughtful, methodical exploration paired with functional movement to help integrate the work.

✨ Celebrating 3 Years of Yoga For Us ✨ Saturday 2/7 from 1:00-3:00 PM
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This Saturday, we’re honored to celebrate the 3 year anniversary of Yoga For Us: BIPOC Only Space, visioned and facilitated by Marlene Boyette — a practice rooted in care, belonging, and community.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For three years, this monthly offering has created a dedicated space for Black, Indigenous, and People of Color to move, breathe, rest, and practice together. Through a thoughtful blend of energizing and soothing postures, along with elements of meditation, pranayama, and sound healing, this space continues to support joy, connection, and nourishment within practice and community.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
To mark this milestone, Saturday’s gathering will extend beyond practice with time to connect and celebrate together in the studio until 3:30 PM.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We are deeply grateful for Marlene’s vision, leadership, and care — and for the community that has helped this offering grow into what it is today. 💙

A real key to functional and deep backbends and arm balances is joint support.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
In her latest workshop - Mobilize the Upper Body this Saturday 2/7 from 2-5 PM - Andrea Fotopoulos guides a deep dive into joint range conditioning for shoulders, spine, and upper body strength — exploring how mobility lives at the intersection of strength, flexibility, and neurological control.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We’ll look beyond repetition and into action: how joints create space, build capacity, and learn to bear load with more freedom and less pain. Expect tools that support longevity in your practice, whether you’re already loving your backbends or curious about how to make them feel more sustainable and accessible.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Come learn how your joints work — and how to work with them.

JP Centre Yoga stands in solidarity with communities across the country protesting ICE violence and the ongoing targeting and criminalization of immigrants. Today our doors remain open to support the livelihoods of our teachers and to continue to serve as a hub of community connection and care.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Jamaica Plain has a deep and rich history as the home of generations of immigrants whose presence, labor, cultures, and care have enriched the flavor, texture, and spirit of this neighborhood well before we opened our doors in 2012. Yogic teachings ask us to practice not only asana but the morals and ethics of Ahimsa - non-harming, and Satya - truthfulness, both of which have been violated by oppressive systems. The Bhagavad Gita implores us to live yoga off our mats by exercising skill in action. We support all those who are withholding their labor and purchasing power, those supporting small businesses, those organizing in their neighborhoods, and those taking to the streets.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu - May all beings everywhere be happy, safe, and free from suffering, and may my thoughts, words, and actions contribute in some way to that happiness and to that freedom for all.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
