Most people expect their mood to improve as the weather gets warmer.

But for some, spring and summer bring something very different—more anxiety, irritability, disrupted sleep, or a sense of feeling “off” without a clear reason.

This is a less talked about presentation of seasonal mood changes, and it often gets missed or misunderstood.

In this blog, we break down:
• Why some people feel worse in warmer months
• How seasonal changes impact your nervous system and mood
• Practical, evidence-informed ways to manage it

If you’ve been harder on yourself lately because you think you should feel better this time of year, this may offer some clarity—and relief.

And if you recognize yourself in this, it may be worth exploring with the right support.

Most people associate seasonal mood changes with the darker, colder months. But for some, the shift into spring and summer brings something unexpected: irritability, anxiety, low mood, or a sense of being emotionally “off” just when everything is supposed to feel lighter. If that resonates, you.....

Earth Day reminds us that our environment is not separate from our wellbeing. Research shows that access to green space reduces stress, lowers depression risk, and supports emotional regulation.

Therapy often incorporates nature through grounding exercises, mindfulness practices, or even eco-therapy approaches. These practices highlight how deeply connected we are to the spaces around us. Even a short walk outside can shift mood and perspective.

If you’ve been feeling disconnected or overwhelmed, consider how your environment plays a role.

We’re back with another Myth vs. Fact about neurodivergent individuals:

Myth: Stress responses like stimming, withdrawal, or shutdowns are misbehavior.

Fact: These behaviors are often adaptive coping strategies the body uses to handle overwhelming stress. Repetitive movements, seeking quiet, or difficulty communicating in the moment are ways the brain and body regulate sensory or emotional overload.

Recognizing the difference between misbehavior and a stress response allows us to respond with empathy, support, and practical strategies.

For neurodivergent individuals—or for loved ones seeking guidance—working with an affirming therapist can help understand these behaviors and develop effective ways to manage stress, supporting growth, well-being, and confidence.

Employee of the Month: Faith Langkilde, Client Care Coordinator

We’re pleased to recognize Faith as our Employee of the Month, selected by Laura Sansum, Psychotherapist.

Since joining TheraCorp, Faith has quickly become an important part of our team.

As our Client Care Coordinator, she is often the first point of contact for clients, and she consistently brings a calm, warm, and welcoming presence that helps set a supportive tone from the very beginning.

She stands out for her steady, solution-focused approach, even during busy moments. Faith remains composed under pressure and supports both clients and staff with professionalism, care, and kindness.

We’re truly grateful for the positive impact she has already made and the consistency she brings to our daily operations.

Thank you, Faith, for the care and dedication you bring to TheraCorp each day.

Trauma doesn’t always look the way people expect it to.

It often shows up in everyday patterns—how you react under stress, how you relate to others, and how your body responds in certain situations.

In our latest blog, we break down the four common trauma responses: fight, flight, freeze, and fawn—and what they can look like in real life.

You’ll learn:
• How to recognize these patterns in yourself
• Why they develop from a nervous system perspective
• How they can impact your relationships and daily functioning
• How working with a mental health professional can help you shift these patterns over time

If you’ve ever wondered “why do I react this way?”—this is a helpful place to start.

When parental validation falls short, the impact often carries into adulthood in ways that aren’t always obvious.

It can show up as second-guessing yourself, seeking external approval, or feeling like your efforts are never quite enough—despite what you achieve.

From a clinical perspective, this makes sense. Early relationships shape how we see ourselves. When validation is inconsistent or missing, many people continue to look for it in the same places, hoping it will feel different over time.

Part of the work is gently recognizing that this need may not be met in the way you hoped, and beginning to build a more stable, internal sense of validation instead.

In this blog, we walk through:
• Why parental validation has such a lasting impact
• How unmet emotional needs can show up in adulthood
• Practical ways to shift toward a more grounded, self-supported sense of worth

This isn’t about blame, it’s about clarity, understanding, and doing something different with that awareness.

It can be helpful to occasionally pause and reflect on how and why substances are being used.

In a recent conversation with one of our licensed therapists, we discussed signs that alcohol or substance use may be shifting from recreational to coping-focused. Some things to pay attention to include:
• Using substances primarily to manage stress or emotions
• Feeling like you “need” a drink or substance to relax or unwind
• Noticing the amount you use increasing over time
• Using substances to avoid difficult thoughts or feelings
• Feeling guilt, concern, or secrecy about your habits

This kind of reflection isn’t about judgment—it’s about awareness. Understanding the role substances may be playing in your life can be an important step in supporting your mental health and overall well-being.

The important thing to remember is that change is possible, and support can make a meaningful difference.

On April 10, the Day of Silence highlights a reality many LGBTQ youth navigate every day—holding back parts of themselves to avoid bullying or exclusion.

From a psychological standpoint, that kind of self-censorship is a form of protection. But over time, it can take a real toll on mental health, learning, and identity development.

In this post, we walk through:
• Why the Day of Silence started
• What research tells us about the impact of bullying on LGBTQ youth
• What actually helps when it comes to being an ally

You'll also take away practical ways to create environments where young people feel safer being themselves.

If you’re a young person dealing with bullying or feeling like you have to hide parts of yourself—or a parent/caregiver watching your child struggle—support matters. Working with an affirming therapist can help you process what’s happening, build coping tools, and feel less alone in it.

Her collaborative, tailored style integrates CBT, solution-focused therapy, and mindfulness to build practical skills and deepen self-understanding—while honoring the role of identity, culture, and lived experience in each person’s story.

Gabriella takes a collaborative, empowering approach, grounded in the belief that you are the expert of your own life. She walks alongside clients as they navigate challenges, identify areas for growth, and build a personalized toolkit for lasting progress. Her work creates space for safety, intention, and curiosity.

We’re proud to have them on our team and excited for the care they’ll bring to our community.

Wishing all who celebrate a very Happy Easter!

Easter is a symbol of renewal and hope — a reminder that growth is possible even after long seasons of struggle.

At TheraCorp, Inspire Hope is more than a core value — it’s the foundation of how we approach care. Hope doesn’t mean ignoring hardship; it means believing that tomorrow can look different from today.

In therapy, hope is cultivated step by step: breaking challenges into manageable parts, recognizing small but meaningful victories, and building connection — with clinicians, loved ones, and community. Renewal isn’t abstract; it’s something we see every day when people rediscover their ability to change.

If holding on to hope has felt difficult, use the link in our bio to reach out and schedule with one of our licensed therapists. Let’s explore together what renewal could mean for you.

Supporting independence in adulthood isn’t a simple “push harder” conversation, it’s a balance of safety, skill-building, and shifting roles over time.

In this month’s Dear Therapist, we explore a question many parents quietly hold: How do I help my adult child grow more independent when they still rely on me?

Through four distinct clinical lenses, we break down what may be happening beneath the surface, and what actually helps move the needle (hint: it’s often slower, more collaborative, and more compassionate than expected).

If you’ve ever felt the tension between supporting and stepping back, as a parent, this one’s for you: https://www.rfr.bz/fc0d363
