Chia seeds are a superfood for a reason! The health benefits of chia seeds are truly seemingly endless!
Chia seeds are an excellent source of fiber, which can help regulate bowel movements and improve digestion. The fiber in chia seeds can also create a feeling of fullness, aiding in weight management by reducing overall calorie intake. By aiding in weight management chia seeds can contribute to overall health and well being. The fiber in chia seeds also helps slow down the absorption of glucose, which can help prevent blood sugar spikes.
Chia seeds are also rich in Omega-3s which help lower blood pressure, reduce inflammation, improve cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease.
Chia seeds are also an incredible source of essential minerals like calcium, magnesium and phosphorus, which are important for bone health. These minerals also contribute to muscle function and nerve transmission.
Chia seeds also contain a wide variety of antioxidants which help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. Free radical damage leads to oxidative stress which contributes to chronic diseases like cancer, heart disease, neurodegeneration, diabetes, and premature aging. Antioxidants also play an important role in reducing inflammation and supporting overall health.
Chia seeds are super easy to incorporate into a variety of foods and recipes, making them a convenient and versatile addition to a healthy diet.
It is wise to soak chia seeds in water to improve digestion and enhance nutrient absorption. Soaking them is also known to reduce bloating and discomfort that can sometimes be experienced by consuming dry chia seeds.
To soak: combine with water in a 1:4 ratio (seeds to liquid) and allow them to sit for at least 20 minutes, then strain and use the seeds however you desire. You can drink the water that you soaked the seeds in to for even more benefits! I add the juice of a whole lemon into the water and it’s incredible!
