There was a time when I found myself helping everyone else—being a father, pastor, hospice chaplain, and trainer/coach—while slowly letting myself go. I was stressed, borderline diabetic, and hypertensive. I told myself the lie that working out gave me permission to eat whatever I wanted “in moderation.” But deep down, I knew something had to change.
Recently, I said, “Enough is enough.” I recommitted myself to working out every day except Sunday. That’s right—when you’re over 45, exercise should be a part of your daily routine, and not just walking—weight training is essential. I started prioritizing self-care, returning to my authentic self, and letting go of the distractions that kept me from focusing on God first.
The biggest transformation came when I decided to lead by example. I became a health coach, but before taking on a single client, I joined the very program I now use to help others. The health coach got a health coach! With the guidance and mentorship of my coach, I adopted a new lifestyle that has truly changed my life.
Now, as a health coach, I have powerful tools to help others live well—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I’m not just telling people what to do—I’m living it.

Someone told me I looked successful as I was washing my car at the car wash. I thought about this and laughed. While I am grateful for material wealth, true success is good health!

In our pursuit of success, we must remember that no amount of material wealth can replace the value of good health. Let’s prioritize what truly matters—our physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

Sabbath as Self-Care

One thing I’ve found helpful is incorporating the practice of Sabbath as self-care. Sabbath as self-care is not necessarily about religion but about relationship. It is a divine principle for self-care. By taking a day to rest (not simply sleep), I restore and rejuvenate my relationship with my purpose, passion, and life plan. Sabbath is self-care.

I encourage you to take a day (any day that fits your life) to rest your soul, restore your strength, and renew your mind.

I meet with my clients three days per week: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 5:30 AM to 6:00 AM. Classes cost $15 each. You can do it!
