Very rarely do people ask me why I only offer prepaid sessions. This past week reminded me of a huge reason why I did that.
I got a massage on Monday. My massage therapist is very similar to how I massage, focusing only on 1-2 areas of the body for a significant amount of time to encourage changes and shifts to the body.
Y'all, I could not think clearly for over an hour afterwards. I got off the table and so much shifted in my body where I couldn't even see for what felt like 2 minutes. I couldn't stand and almost crawled right back on the table until I was able to ground myself. I completely understand the mini panic that can happen to hurry and get dressed to not delay their next appt, even though I know better than that.
Because of the state I was in, which can be referred to "Massage brain" or "Massage drunk" I couldn't put logical thoughts together. Words weren't formed into sentences and I made no sense at all.
You know what else I couldn't do?
Math.
I find that people overtip me if they are paying in cash. So many factors can go into why this happens.
I adore my clients who tip me and adore those who don't. It matters more that you are able to get yourself on my table and take care of yourself than to worry about whether or not you can tip me. But if you accidentally tip me too much, especially if it's your first massage ever, I feel really bad.
Besides the prepay option giving space for a higher quantity of clients showing up to their scheduled appointment, it provides a level of ease to everyone's mind that no one has to deal with cash the moment you get off the table.
