DID YOU KNOW? The American Heart Association recommends:
* Women: no more than 6 tsp of sugar (about 25g of total carbohydrates) daily
* Men: no more than 9 tsp (about 36g of total carbohydrates) daily
BUT reports show that most American diets contain an average of 77g of total carbohydrates a day and often significantly more! (That's more than DOUBLE the amount for the average man and TRIPLE the amount for the average woman!)
WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT? Overloading the system with more than it can metabolize has been linked to serious health conditions such as heart disease (heart attacks, high cholesterol, strokes), metabolic disorders (type 2 diabetes, obesity, fatty liver disease etc.) and even cancers.
Often this overload is happening without the consumer even realizing it which means the more you know, the more you can identify and make changes to support your health!
THE GOOD NEWS IS: You can easily reduce carb intake and glucose surges with small, sustainable changes such as:
πΏReplace sugary drinks with water, herbal teas, or infused water.
πΏChoose fruits & nuts over sugary snacks for nutrients.
πΏUse natural sweeteners like honey or maple syrup in moderation when cooking or baking.
πΏRead food labels to spot hidden sugars in packaged foods.
πΏKnow that carbs are not just 'sugars'. They are any foods metabolized as sugar in the body, which includes dry goods we often don't think about like flours, breads, pastas, rice, oats, etc. which is often how we hit higher amounts in our diets without realizing it! Once we know this however, we can balance our days meals more effectively!
KEEP IN MIND: Carbs are NOT bad! Our body NEEDS carbs to perform necessary functions in our body and the amount needed for each of us will vary from person to person depending on specific lifestyles and overall health factors. We are all unique and there is NO "one size fits all" for our health!
It's about finding the right balance for you and ensuring that your diet supports your energy levels, mental clarity, and physical well-being. Whether you're an athlete needing more energy for workouts, or someone with a less active lifestyle, we can help tailor a plan that ensures you're getting the right amount of carbohydrates and other nutrients.
REMEMBER: it's NOT ABOUT RESTRICTION but about making informed choices that empower you to live your healthiest life and we are here to take on this journey together, ensuring you have the knowledge and support you need every step of the way! πͺππΏ
