SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital – Janesville Chaplain Randy Booth first learned how to build access ramps nearly 30 years ago, and it’s a skill he continues to use to serve others.

Recently, Randy completed his fifth access ramp for someone he first met as a patient.

Robert was hospitalized and shared how difficult it was to get in and out of his home using a walker. Randy listened — and then acted by gathering a group to build the ramp.

For Robert and his wife Laureen, the group’s work made a great difference.

“It’s so nice to be able to open my door and easily get out to my vehicle,” Robert said. “I can go where I need to go and not be stuck inside…Randy is truly a great man.”

For Randy, helping others is simply a calling:

“We should do good at every opportunity and use our skills with open eyes and open hearts,” he said.
