This week we experienced a horrific school shooting that has sent a ripple effect of shock and sadness in our own backyard. It is important to keep in mind that everyone experiences trauma differently and the best thing we can do is support people how they need to be supported in these times. Please know that NAMI National, NAMI Wisconsin, and all local NAMI affiliates are here for you if you need support. Below is a statement from our CEO at the National office and some additional resources.

“We should all be able to send our kids to school with the knowledge that it is a place for learning and community, not tragedy and horror,” said Daniel H. Gillison, Jr., CEO of NAMI National. “This senseless violence causes immense trauma and harm to so many people’s mental health, particularly children and their families. We stand united to support the people of Wisconsin and all who are impacted by these events.”

NAMI urges anyone who is struggling or needs to talk in the wake of this tragedy to reach out to a friend, family member, or to NAMI for support.

Not feeling as festive this holiday season? You’re not alone. The ‘Holiday Blues’ are real, and it’s okay to not be in the holiday spirit. 💙 It’s important to remember that taking care of your mental health matters just as much as any celebration. If you need a break, take it. If you need to talk, reach out. You don’t have to have it all figured out — just be kind to yourself.

Last week we added another successful CIP (Crisis Intervention Partners) Training in the books! It was a great group of partners from a variety of disciplines in our community. We certainly appreciate the Sheriff's Office for hosting our training and for all of the agencies and organizations that allowed staff to attend.
