World Mental Health Day is an international day for global mental health education, awareness and advocacy against social stigma. It was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organization. We appreciate this recognition from the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia during our 170th Anniversary of helping children and their families. Thank you for highlighting this milestone in our history. May there be many more years of continuing our mission of hope, help and healing of children in need of our care.

This year marks [Jackson-Feild Behavioral Health Services] 170th anniversary. Since its founding in 1855, it has endured world-changing events like the Civil War, two World Wars, the Great Depression, the Cold War, the Civil Rights Movement, and the rise of modern technology. Through it all, the mission has remained constant: to serve children.

Earlier this summer, we visited Jackson-Feild Behavioral Health Services in Jarratt, VA, and saw firsthand the powerful work being done to support youth facing trauma and mental health challenges. 💙

What began in 1855 as an orphanage has evolved into a residential treatment center where each child receives personalized care, on-campus education, and support from highly trained staff. We’re proud to have supported staff training that enables this compassionate care. 💚

It's National Make a Difference to a Child Month. The month raises awareness about the vulnerability any child in the world can face if they do not have the supportive guidance in their lives. Children, being pure of heart and still lacking experience about life, need guidance to choose the right paths. Often times such guiding figures can be parents, teachers, or other types of guardians. A study shows that children are more likely to achieve higher goals if they have mentors in their lives. At Jackson-Feild we believe in our kids and their futures!
