Substance use disorders can affect people from all walks of life, regardless of age, race, or gender. Recognizing the signs of a substance use disorder is an important first step toward recovery.
Some common signs of a substance use disorder include changes in behavior, mood, or social habits, as well as physical symptoms such as fatigue, weight loss, or difficulty sleeping. Other signs might include life problems that negatively impact school or work, relationships, legal issues, or maintaining the living environment. It's important to remember that not everyone will exhibit the same signs, and that some people may not show any signs at all.
If you suspect that you or someone you know may be struggling with a substance use disorder, please know that help is available. Our Substance Use Disorders division offers a range of services that are designed to promote recovery and healing.
Remember, addiction is a medical condition, not a moral failing or a personal weakness. Let's work together to reduce stigma and support those who are struggling with substance use disorders.
