Sign of the day: “Hope” – place your hand near your forehead and move it slightly forward. Hope has guided the Deaf community through centuries of challenge, from early struggles for education to modern advocacy for equality and accessibility. It reminds us that resilience and optimism can shape history and empower communities.

HOPE! Sign of the day!Note: You must use your dominant hand to sign! Your non-dominant hand is always the base, while your dominant hand does the movement. N...

Gallaudet University, founded in 1864, remains the only university in the world specifically for Deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Its alumni have shaped advocacy, education, arts, and leadership worldwide. The university is more than an educational institution—it is a cultural center, a place where Deaf identity, language, and pride are nurtured. Celebrating Gallaudet reminds us of the power of community-driven institutions to uplift and empower historically marginalized groups.

Juliette Gordon Low, the founder of the Girl Scouts, made a lasting impact by advocating for the inclusion of Deaf girls in her programs. She recognized that opportunities for leadership, growth, and community should be accessible to all children, regardless of ability. Let's welcome NORTHWEST ALABAMA MENTAL HEALTH CENTER to Second Saturdays on April 11th!

"We are committed to creating awareness and providing education to the residents of Colbert County. Our mission focuses on highlighting the dangers of prescription drug misuse and abuse, as well as the growing risks associated with va**ng.
We also work to spread awareness of the 988 National Lifeline, ensuring our community knows that help is always available during times of crisis.

To support safe practices, we host prescription drug take-back events at the Tuscumbia Police Department and Peoples Drug in Cherokee—helping residents safely dispose of unused or expired medications.

In addition, we provide valuable resources and educational materials to local schools, senior centers, and businesses, working together to build a healthier, safer community for everyone."
