Jimmie (Jim) Irwin, 77, of Carthage, Mo, departed from this world to join his Heavenly Father on September 7th, 2025. He was the son of Ralph and Opal Irwin of Avilla, Mo.
Jim was born on September 3rd, 1948 in Blackwell, Ok. As a youth, he attended Kildare Elementary and Ponca City High School. His family moved to Neosho, Mo his Sophomore year and he graduated from Sarcoxie High School in 1966. Jim attended college in Joplin, Mo -where he would say he majored in playing pool. In 1967, he left college to enlist in the Army. He completed basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, followed by advanced individual training at Fort Lee.
Jim was then stationed in Okinawa, Japan for two years and completed his service at Ft. Sill, Ok. Following his military service, Jim spent his life as a career cattle rancher and farmer near Avilla, Mo.
Jim married Glenda Shelton on July 1st, 1969 in Okinawa, Japan. They shared 56 years of marriage, working together on the family farm in Avilla, Mo where they raised crops and cattle.
Jim was known for his love for the outdoors; he enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time in his element on the farm. He was an avid golfer and bowler, and participated in the National Bowling Championship for over 25 years. Jim was a member of the Bridge, A Christian Church (formerly First Christian Church) where he served as a Sunday school leader, participated in men’s Bible studies, always keeping Christ at the center of his life.
Jim and Glenda were blessed with two daughters: Candi (Ed) Bright and Amber (James)Kinder both of Carthage, Mo. He was a very proud girl dad, but nothing brought him more joy than his grandchildren: Grant (Kalyn) Irwin, Karlee (Jake) Beets, Clay Kinder, Carson Kinder, Chance Bright, Chandler Bright and Caroline Bright. Jim loved every moment spent with them especially watching them play their sports.
Jim is survived by his brothers Dean (Jan) Irwin, Gene (Pam) Irwin and Tony (Gail) Irwin, along with several nieces and nephews and many lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial visitation for friends and family will be held at the Lighthouse, Carthage, Mo on Sunday, September 14, 2025 from 3:00 till 5:00 p.m.
Memorial graveside services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 15, 2025 at The Avilla Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to The Bridge, A Christian Church, or the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt Vernon.
