For some Thanksgiving is the reminder that someone is missing from the table, remember it’s okay for grief & gratitude to co-exist.

The Appalachian Judicial Circuit H.E.L.P Court was honored to be named a Model Mental Health Court at the 2023 Council of Accountability Court Judges Annual Conference. The team accepted this award on behalf of the late Judge John E. Worcester.

Programs identified as a Model Court are those that have met and exceeded adherence to Georgia's standards as dictated by strong performance on certification and review process. Model Courts are strong programs that may serve as mentors for other courts.

We are saddened with the sudden passing of Superior Court Judge John E. Worcester on August 17, 2023. Judge Worcester was appointed as a Superior Court Judge in 2016 and previously served as Chief Juvenile Judge of the Appalachian Judicial Circuit.

Judge Worcester became the presiding judge of the Appalachian Judicial Circuit Mental Health Court in 2016. He often said that working with the Accountability Courts was his favorite part of his job. He made those that came before him feel like they mattered and could do anything they put their mind to. We will be forever grateful for his leadership, kindness and hope he gave.

Information on arrangements will be posted as they are made available. Our hearts are with Judge Worcester's family at this difficult time.

As Mental Health Awareness Month is right around the corner this is a great event to start it off with. Life is hard but should you never have to walk it alone ❤️

The month of May is designated as “National Mental Health Awareness Month.” Mt Zion is trying to get that started a little early, and this Wed, April 26th, we are having some guests join us in our Fellowship Hall at 6:30. One of our guests will be Shannon Brooks. He is a young man who grew up in Jasper and was a standout in PHS Football. He went on to play for the Univ. of Minnesota football team on a scholarship. While there, Shannon enjoyed a promising career and even hopes of playing in the NFL. However, after a few injuries that sidelined him and the passing of a loved one, he became quite depressed. Wednesday, he will share what happened and how he overcame some struggles of depression, etc... Come to hear his story – it will be a blessing to all in attendance for sure. Mt. Zion is located at 1036 North Main Street in Jasper.

This morning at our court review we celebrated Chris Coker as he received his Pickens High School Diploma. Chris stated “for a long time I blamed everyone else but at 43 I finally realized it was me and I’m the only one that can make this right. The 18 year old kid in me feels accomplished”.

Chris plans to eventually go to Chattahoochee Tech to obtain his CDL’s.

We are proud of Chris and excited for what his future holds.
