Commission Actions – August 4 Meeting
New Business
1. Commission Approves FY2026 County Transportation Plan for Rebuild Alabama funds.
2. Commission Approves Request by Warrior Met Coal to Enter Agreement for Paving of Blackburn Road in District 3.
- NOTES: This road is known as Wallace-Ferry Road in Tuscaloosa County. Warrior Met is asking permission from the commission to upgrade the road. The agreement is subject to county engineer’s review and approval. Warrior Met is assuming all costs; there will be no cost to the county.
3. Commission Approves Adopting FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Map
- Changes effective Oct. 30, 2025. No significant changes in the flood hazard, according to county engineer.
4. Commission Tables $11,541.00 in Flood Insurance Premium Increase for Justice Center Building to Guarantee Original Coverage of $500,000
5. Commission Approves Old Airport Grounds Rental Agreement with the Ultimate Fair d/b/a the Walker County Fair.
- Will open this Friday, August 8 and go through Sunday, August 17. Rental fee will be $500 per day and will be put into county’s agricultural fund.
- County Attorney Charles Stephens said the contract needs to be tweaked for this agreement and for future rental agreements.
6. Commission Approves FY2025 Budget Amendment to Credit 001-52100 (Sheriff’s Department) with $145,395.79 in Additional Revenue to be distributed as follows*:
a. Increase 001-52100-212 by $11,000.00
b. Increase 001-52100-540 by $4,955.46
c. Increase 001-52100-149 by $129,440.33
NOTE: Reimbursement and grant revenues were unbudgeted and will be distributed between Fuel, Overtime, and Equipment Purchases.
7. Commission Approves FY2025 Budget Amendment to Credit Fund 101-54100 (Solid Waste) with Additional Loan Revenue as follows:
a. Increase 101-54100-550 by $929,655.00 – recognizes loan proceeds used to purchase 3 new side-loaders for Solid Waste department.
8. Commission Approves Commission’s Request to Add the Position of Common Laborer to Both Revenue and Reappraisal Departments.
9. Commission Approves Adding to Payroll Probate Hire, Amy Fuller, in the Position of Probate Clerk with an Expected Start Date of August 20, 2025.
- Probate Judge Lee Tucker said Ms. Fuller is replacing someone who left.
10. Commission Approves Adding to Payroll Jamey Fuller as Common Laborer at the Solid Waste Department.
11. Commission Approves Amending Payroll to Include Baiylee Lane and Robert J. Robinson as 120-Day Full-Time Jailers, Effective July 30, 2025.
- During discussion items, Commissioner Burrough made a motion to change the name on agenda item 11 from Richardson to Robinson. The motion was approved.
Executive Session: Commission votes to suspend part-time jailer Brad Allred without pay, pending the outcome of a federal indictment.
NOTE: Before reporting for duty, new employees must successfully complete the WCCSB drug test and submit all required employment paperwork to payroll clerks in commission office.
