The PBMs and insurance conglomerates are driving up drug costs, crushing small-business pharmacies, and creating pharmacy deserts. There is wide bipartisan support for these reforms, so there are no excuses for letting another year slip by without passing them.

With PBMs serving as middlemen, prescription drug prices continue to rise with no relief in sight. PBMs are content to watch their profit margins increase while patients, small businesses, and independent pharmacies struggle.

Something has got to give.

Rising inflation and increasing costs have left the average American feeling the financial pinch. Everywhere you turn these days, the […]

This achievement builds on the momentum created by the Pharmacy Vaccine Gap Closure Program—launched in 2024 by MPA, CPESN® Missouri, and CPESN Community Health. Action Required: Enroll in the Medicare Transaction Facilitator (MTF)

If your pharmacy plans to participate in any Medicare Part D network next year, you must enroll in the MTF Data Module (MTF-DM) to receive manufacturer refund payments. Before enrolling, ensure your NCPDP profile is accurate, decide which functions (e.g., central pay or reconciliation) to assign to third-party support entities, and be ready to sign a legal agreement (review with counsel). Indicate any material cashflow concerns to receive mitigation plans from manufacturers. Enrollment takes about 1 hour and requires banking information.

We STRONGLY encourage enrollment before Jan. 1, 2026, though enrollment will remain ongoing.

WAC PRICE DROPS ARE HERE — ACT NOW!

Major WAC decreases are hitting popular drugs — some of the biggest cuts in industry history (estimated up to $50 billion). Drugs like Eliquis, Jardiance, and Farxiga are on the list.

If you keep higher-WAC inventory on your shelves, PBMs will reimburse you at the new lower WAC — meaning you could lose tens of thousands of dollars. Some wholesalers are already blocking returns, leaving pharmacies stuck with higher-cost stock.

What to do RIGHT NOW:
• Review your inventory
• Cross-check items with WAC decreases
• Clear out will-call for affected meds
• Watch for wholesaler WAC announcements
• Understand return-block policies
• Streamline inventory + use on-demand ordering
• Enroll in CMS’ Medicare Transaction Facilitator program to secure manufacturer refunds on the first 10 negotiated drugs

Don’t wait — protect your pharmacy from massive losses.

Celebrating 140 years of serving Pharmacists

In September of 1879, the Missouri Pharmacy Association was established. Since then, the association has worked tirelessly for all pharmacists across the state, ensuring that they remain the medication experts in patient care relationships.

Today, we continue to keep our eyes on that goal. Everything we do at the MPA revolves around moving the profession of pharmacy forward, as directed by our leadership team and membership. We hope you join us in this mission!
