PRESS RELEASE: AMA Launches “Health vs. Hype” Podcast Series with iHeartMedia’s Ruby Studio

Eight-episode first season explores viral wellness trends and fads, featuring doctors to explain the evidence and help listeners determine what’s actually health and what’s just hype

CHICAGO — The American Medical Association (AMA), in collaboration with iHeartMedia’s Ruby studio, today announced the launch of its new podcast series, “Health vs. Hype with the AMA.” The eight-episode series will provide an entertaining deep dive into the latest viral wellness trends, DIY medicine, and common health myths. Each episode will also include an evidence-based discussion with a physician to help listeners understand the trend and distinguish between which health claims are real, which are risky, and which are backed by science.

“With wellness trends and health claims from influencers filling our social media feeds every day, it’s harder than ever to separate fact from fiction and know what information to trust. Our health is our most valuable asset, and relying only on algorithms or influencers can come at a real cost,” said AMA CEO John Whyte, MD, MPH. “’Health vs. Hype’ cuts through the noise—bringing people clear, evidence-based insights from physicians so they know what is clinically sound and what’s just clickbait.”

Hosted by Emmy-nominated science communicator Trace Dominguez, each episode will feature physicians, trend enthusiasts, influencers, and people curious about the latest “health” fads. Topics include protein maxxing, cold plunge cures, detoxing and more.

“With ‘Health vs. Hype’ we aim to provide a relatable and open place where people can come to get the facts about the health care industry,” said host Trace Dominguez. “The internet is a big place; it’s filled with thoughts and opinions flying every which way about everything. For most people, that noise makes it tough to know what to trust when it comes to their health. We ask questions from a place of curiosity and try to find the best answers backed by real science — and sometimes those answers are surprising! This is a show where listeners’ interests in health trends are heard, and their curiosity is rewarded with real information from real researchers and trusted medical professionals. We’re just out here trying to find the facts, just like everyone else, but with some amazing experts from the AMA in our corner.”

The first episode of “Health vs. Hype” is available today, and a new episode will be released every other Tuesday through July 21. Episodes are available on the iHeartRadio app and everywhere podcasts are heard.

The MSMA Convention and the MSMA Alliance Annual Meeting were concluded with great celebration!
Kevin Weikart, MD, FACP, was Inaugurated as the 2026-2027 MSMA President by the Immediate Past President, Brian Biggers, MD, FACS.
And all enjoyed the evening at the Presidentials Reception.

MSMA Alliance officers installed and awards presented.

AMA Alliance president, Ron Jaggers, installed the 2026-2027 officers. Right to left: Gill Waltman, President; Donna Corrado, Immediate Past President; Dr. Jo-Ellyn Ryall, Secretary; Debbie Barbe, Vice President of Health; and Jana Wolfe, Vice President of Membership.
Mr. Jaggers used cooking ingredients as symbols for the installation; metaphors for the unique "flavor" of the responsibilities of each office.
The Sandra Mitchell Award was presented to Gill Waltman. The award honors Mrs. Waltman for her significant contributions to her community.
The Lizabeth Starnes Fleenor Literary Award was presented to Jana Wolfe. The award honors her for her consistent dedication, devotion, and communication between the MSMA Alliance and the AMA Alliance, and her conviction to support the Medical Family and to serve their communities, state & nation, advocating for a healthier Missouri.

American Medical Association Alliance President, Mr. Ron Jaggers, travels to our MSMA Alliance meeting. He brought motivating news from the AMA Alliance, energizing alliance members from across the state.
Mrs. Jana Wolfe brought "Aloha" greetings from the Alliance Health Education Initiative (AHEI).
AHEI will be entertaining the AMA Alliance Annual Meeting attendees in May, with "Aloha With a Purpose, an Island Night Fundraiser".
Their fundraising events support AHEI's Health Grants. She gave insight into applying for one of their grants. AHEI has provided 60 grants and impacted over 200,000 people in the past 10 years.

The Alliance 101st Annual Meeting began on Saturday morning with the MSMA Alliance President, Donna Corrado, addressing the MSMA Convention. Her speech was gracious, inspiring, and compelling to the physicians and attendees. She humbly informed the audience of our commitment to physicians and the family of medicine, our advocacy, and more.
