The Missouri School Counselor Association is a dynamic professional organization that has officially served school counselors of Missouri since 1948. MSCA was founded to help persons interested in guidance make the most effective use of their skills and talents in services to students, parents, school personnel, and community members.

​Are you interested in making a difference in your profession? Consider running for a position on MSCA's Board of Directors! During this election process, three individuals will be elected by their peers to serve a 3-year term beginning on October 1, 2026.

In addition to knowledge about and experience in the school counseling field, the Nominations and Elections Committee seeks leadership candidates with a demonstrated commitment and service to the organization, a working knowledge of the Missouri Comprehensive Counseling Model, and a temperament that contributes to and generates group consensus, wisdom, and vision.

APPLICATIONS ARE DUE NOVEMBER 15, 202​5

August ​2​5, 2025: Official Announcement Soliciting Nominations

November 15, 2025: Deadline for Applications

March 1, 2026: Deadline for Additional Information from Applicants

April 1, 2026: Announcement to Membership of Nominees

May 1, 2026: Online Voting Begins

May 17, 2026: Voting Closes

May 20, 2026: Results Announced

October 1, 2026: Selected Individuals Take Office

NOMINEE REQUIREMENTS

According to the MSCA Bylaws, Board of Director Nomination Requirements are as listed below. For full description of Board Director responsibilities and terms of service see: MSCA By-Laws

Candidates must:

hold a valid Missouri school counselor certificate

have been practicing school counselors for at least five years

must be employed full-time in school counseling in a school, school district, or coordinator/director of counseling or as a full-time faculty in a school counselor education program at the time of the election

be current members of a Missouri regional association

be a current MSCA Professional or Regular Member and must have been a member for at least five years immediately preceding their candidacy

submit a resume that includes years of service and volunteer positions held at the regional or state level

Candidates whose eligibility changes at any time during the election process must notify the MSCA Office.

Candidates may self-nominate for office by completing the below information and signature page by the November 15 deadline. Please note that if more than 8 nominations are received, nominees will be scored based on a board-approved rubric to identify the 8 individuals that will be included on the election ballot.

Affinity groups have begun for the 2025-2026 school year!

Affinity Groups are small communities of members who share a similar area of interest or identity. Affinity Group members enjoy opportunities to discuss shared challenges, brainstorm solutions, identify valuable resources and network with like-minded peers. Each group is formed based on grassroots interest and needs and offers opportunities for meaningful conversations in safe spaces. Affinity Groups are self-directed and led by members - these discussions are open to all MSCA members.

On October 1, the MSCA Board of Directors transitioned to new leadership. A heartfelt THANK YOU to our outgoing MSCA Board Members — Becky Chambers Arway, Carey Hughes, and Tosha Todd. All 3 concluded their board terms on September 30, 2025.

Welcome to our newest board members, including Sarah Bodi, Christina Gawedzinski and Dr. Alison Roffers who officially started their terms on October 1, 2025. Olivia Carter will serve as the Board Chair for 2025-2026 and Cindy Bentley as the Assistant Chair. Governor Kehoe Releases Governor's Workforce of the Future Challenge Report

Last week, Governor Mike Kehoe, in collaboration with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development (DHEWD), announced the release of the Executive Order (EO) 25-16: Governor's Workforce of the Future Challenge Report, which lays out a path to modernize Missouri's career and technical education (CTE) system and strengthen the state's workforce pipeline. The report references school counselors and 504 case management.
