Thank you to Representative Melanie Stinnett and Representative Bill Hardwick for State Senate for speaking up for people with disabilities!

The Missouri House of Representatives debated legislation, HB 2989 relating to the regulation of video lottery terminals (also referred to as VLTs). During the debate, Rep. Melanie Stinnett (R – Springfield) offered an amendment to create the “Developmental Disability Community Support Fund.” If HB 2989 is approved by the General Assembly and Governor Kehoe, monies collected from a $250 fee on each video lottery terminal registered in the state would be deposited into the fund. The fund is anticipated to collect roughly $8-10 million annually. The language adopted clarifies the fund is not designed to replace General Revenue or solve any funding shortages for services. However, will help serve as supplemental funding to DD community support services in the future.

This bill must have one additional vote by the House of Representatives before it will move to the Missouri Senate for consideration.

Both Representatives have been huge proponents for protecting Missourians with disabilities from cuts that reduce services. These programs provide independence, dignity, and quality of life for families across our state. Thank you for encouraging committee members to prioritize preserving this funding!
