Fact 1: A percentage of Testosterone is converted into Estrogen, which means that when increasing/decreasing these levels the Estradiol (measured Estrogen) will be impacted as well.

Fact 2: Estradiol levels are measured in picograms/milliliter (or picomols/Liter) versus Testosterone levels which are measured in nanograms/deciliter (or nanomols/Liter), a factor of 1000x. It's easy to see how even tiny changes in Estrogen levels can have MAJOR impact on a body.

Fact 3: Too little Estradiol -> lack of desire for s*x; too much Estradiol -> poor s*xual performance. Unlike replacing and targeting Testosterone levels, managing Estradiol is complicated. There is no magic number to target here. Clinics who do not trend or manage the Estradiol effect are missing half the treatment. The art is in the optimization, aka balance, between these two vital hormones and the goal is "just right."

Oh and let's not forget the vital bodily functions Estrogen regulates like: bone, brain, and heart health.

The chart below elegantly illustrates the alignment between a time when 2/3 of women came off hormone therapy and the subsequent rise in prescriptions written for anxiety, depression, and insomnia. Coincidence 🤨🧐 ? Not likely.

When hormonal imbalances are at the root of mental health disorders the solution is quite simple. The season of band-aids, a pat on the shoulder, and reassurance that women were built to handle strife needs to change. Women deserve validation and treatment!

Today's post is brought to you by the letter P, for 🎉 🧘🏻‍♀️ Progesterone 💤🎉, and the numbers 6-8, for the average hours of sleep I finally get a night.

The number 2 can take a long walk off a short pier. That's the number of years I didn't sleep.

Progesterone supplementation, for those who are deficient, feels like taking a Xanax without the weirdness.

I asked a friend how it made her feel. Her reply: "like jello." Yep, I concur. Like a delicious, wobbly, sleepy, happy pile of jello.
