💬🎤 Katie is a Speech-Language Pathologist trained in the SOS Approach to Feeding, which supports children with feeding challenges by allowing them to interact with food in a playful, non-stressful way. She is also trained in PROMPT, a tactile-kinesthetic approach that helps develop motor speech skills. Additionally, Katie uses Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) framework to support gestalt language processors in building meaningful, self-generated language. Her approach is neurodiversity-affirming, play-based, and centered around helping each child thrive in communication and feeding. 🍽️

A new kind of school day is here. SK&SM is launching our full-day therapy program for autistic children ages 3 to 6, built as a true alternative to traditional school. Our days follow the Early Start Denver Model and Pivotal Response Treatment, with OT and Speech woven directly into the flow of ABA so regulation, communication, play, and learning happen together in real time. This is not pull-out therapy. This is a whole-child, whole-day experience designed for how neurodivergent kids actually grow. Regulation first. Relationship always. Learning follows. 🗣️✂️✏️🛝💖

!!!IT’S THERAPIST THURSDAY!!! Katie Forbes, MA, CCC-SLP

Katie is a Speech-Language Pathologist trained in the SOS Approach to Feeding, which supports children with feeding challenges through playful, low-pressure interactions with food. She is also trained in PROMPT, a tactile-kinesthetic approach that supports coordination and control of the muscles required for verbal speech. Katie is a Natural Language Acquisition (NLA) trained clinician and uses this framework to support the development of meaningful, self-generated language in children who are gestalt language processors. She has completed additional trainings in supporting AAC users using the NLA framework as well as using Language Acquisition through Motor Planning (LAMP). In addition, Katie holds a DIRFloortime® Basic Certificate and is currently pursuing her Certificate of Proficiency. Her therapy approach is neurodiversity-affirming, relationship-focused, play-driven, and individualized to help every child build confidence and thrive across all communication and feeding domains.

We assess how oral structures move and function — not just how they look — to help identify if a restriction may be impacting feeding, speech, or comfort.

Consultations include observation, education, and individualized next-step recommendations or referrals when needed.

✨Meet Nicole Ailey, MS, OTR/L, our Senior Occupational Therapist/OT Supervisor here at Sensory Kids and Social Minds! Nicole A has recently completed the Star Institute Pro Certification 1- bringing advanced sensory integration knowledge to help clients thrive, not just cope. With this specialized training in Sensory Integration, she brings sensory-informed intervention to our relationship-based therapy at Sensory Kids to support regulation, attention and skills development. We are so excited that our families can benefit from the latest evidenced-based practice with warm, relationship-focused care!
