Did you know that milk does not just come out of 1 hole in the ni**le?...

โœต
Did you know that milk does not just come out of 1 hole in the ni**le?
โœต
Your ni**les have anywhere from 4 โ€“18 lactiferous duct openings where milk emerges from the ni**le.
โœต
These lactiferous ducts, begin at the ni**le, then branch into smaller ducts, and end in the terminal duct lobular unit (or lobule).
โœต
There may be milk resting in these lactiferous ducts, but to applying negative pressure isnโ€™t enough to cause the milk to flow to the baby.
โœต
The milk let-down reflex, also called the milk ejection reflex, permits the suckling infant to obtain milk. This reflex is caused by the baby suckling.
โ‡ฉ
Your baby triggers tiny nerves in the ni**le.
โ‡ฉ
These nerves cause hormones to be released into your bloodstream.
โ‡ฉ
One of these hormones, called Prolactin, acts on the milk-making tissues.
โ‡ฉ
The other hormone, Oxytocin is released from your pituitary gland in your brain which then causes the breast to push out or โ€˜let downโ€™ the milk.
โ‡ฉ
The let-down reflex makes the milk available to your baby.
โ‡ฉ
Cells around the alveoli contract and squeeze out the milk, pushing it down the ducts towards the ni**le.
โ‡ฉ
Oxytocin also makes the milk ducts widen, making it easier for the milk to flow down them.
โœต
โœ…The let-down reflex can happen in other ways besides your baby suckling. Neurons can also be triggered by higher brain centers, so that the mere sight of a baby or hearing a baby cry is often sufficient to stimulate milk let-down.
โœต
โŽItโ€™s important to also know that the opposite can happen. Stressful conditions may inhibit oxytocin secretion, preventing the suckling infant from obtaining milk even though the breast is full.

-Love,
Flor Cruz

๐Ÿคฑ BREASTFEEDING FACT ๐Ÿคฑ
Seeing others breastfeed increases the likelihood of breastfeeding.

The value of social support on a breastfeeding journey should never be underestimated! There is a strong correlation between having a strong community of support and meeting our own breastfeeding goals.

One very important piece of support is seeing other mothers breastfeed. Some of us never saw a baby eat from the breast until we had our own children. In many traditional cultures, where breastfeeding is not stigmatized, Children grow up seeing babies fed from the breast and are familiar with the process before they ever have babies of their own. This normalization and familiarity drives measurably higher breastfeeding rates.

Watch your friends and family breastfeed, learn, and breastfeed in public as you feel comfortable. You never know who might see you and be inspired! โค๏ธ
