Bitters are one of the most overlooked tools in digestion, and honestly, one of the simplest.
Before supplements, before enzymes, before “gut protocols,” there were bitters.
That bitter taste on the tongue signals your body to wake up digestion, stimulating saliva, stomach acid, bile flow, and liver function. It’s why bitters have been traditionally used before and after meals, especially after rich or heavy foods.
Modern diets tend to favor sweet and salty, but bitterness plays a vital role in digestive balance. Even a small amount can help the body do what it already knows how to do digest, assimilate, and move things along.
Herbs like dandelion root, gentian, orange peel, and artichoke leaf have been used for generations as gentle daily allies for digestion and liver support.
Sometimes the missing step isn’t adding more, it’s remembering what we stopped using. 🌿
