How much will your blood test cost at the hospital? That’s hard to answer.

But at Pine Creek Family Medicine, we offer blood tests to the public at low-cost transparent prices.

We have heard several examples recently:
1) Hemoglobin A1C (diabetes lab) -- $352 at the hospital. $20 at our office.
2) TSH and Free T4 (thyroid labs) -- $700 at the hospital. $50 at our office.
3) Endocrinology ordered special tests on one patient. One was $1000 at the hospital, but we did it for only $90 for her. Her other test was $800 at the hospital. Our price… $80.

Some people say it must be too good to be true. Nope. They are real blood tests processed by a national lab (Labcorp).

Simply get an order from your provider and give us a call. We give you the price and an appointment for the lab draw. We send results to your provider. No more guessing games of what you will pay.

We look forward to saving you money.

We love saving people money on blood tests!

Here are some real-world examples:

One patient paid $2000 last time at the hospital. Our price for the same tests: $120.

His wife paid $1500 last time at the hospital. Our price for her same tests: $90

Endocrinology ordered special tests on one patient. One was $1000 at the hospital, but we did it for only $90 for her. Her other test was $800 at the hospital. Our price… $80.

One man has used us several times. He says his co-pay for labs is $500 every time. We did several tests for him today for $125.

Some people say it must be too good to be true. Nope. They are real blood tests processed by a national lab (Labcorp).

Simply get an order from your provider and give us a call. We give you the price and an appointment for the lab draw. We send results to your provider. No more guessing games of what you will pay.

“I never see the same provider at my doctor’s office,” Mandy complained to her friend. “I feel like I have to tell my whole medical history every time. No one seems to know me.”

“You could check out my doctor,” Jenn said. “I see Dr. Herrington every single time.”

Mandy was intrigued. “How does that work?” she asked.

“Well, Dr. Herrington has a different kind of practice, called Direct Primary Care. I pay a monthly membership fee, and I get unlimited office visits and access. Yesterday I had a sore throat, and I was seen within a few hours of contacting the office. I was in and out quickly. It’s great!”

Mandy grinned. “That sounds great. But will my insurance cover office visits?”

“That’s the cool thing,” Jenn said. “Dr. H doesn’t bill insurance. So she doesn’t get stuck with all kinds of paperwork or requirements. Instead she can take care of her patients. My membership fee includes any time I go to the office. No co-pays. ”

“Does anything cost extra?” Mandy asked.

“I had blood tests done. They weren’t included in the membership fee, but I couldn’t believe how cheap they were. Last year I had labs done at the hospital, and I’m still paying on that bill!”

“That office sounds great!” Mandy said. “I think I’ll check into it.”

In what other industry do you basically sign a blank check?

You go to the hospital, expecting that your insurance will pay a decent amount for the tests. But then you are floored by the bill when it comes. And there is nothing you can do. The price depends on what the hospital charges, and what the insurance will pay. You are often left with a daunting bill, having to figure out how to pay it. You find yourself questioning whether you dare have tests done in the future.

I often say that it is safer to get labs done at my medical office near Jersey Shore, PA. At least I can give people a price.

For my own patients, the prices are amazingly low.

If you are not one of my patients, we can still draw your blood tests. Simply get an order from your provider and give us a call. You can go to www.PineCreekFamMed.com/services and click on the first link for sample prices.

Kelly couldn't believe the bill for her blood tests at the local hospital!!

"They charged me $2600 for the labs you ordered," she wrote to me. “I should have gotten them at your office.”

For Kelly, I had ordered a basic set of labs. When I added them up, I almost hated to let her know what the price would have been through my office, self-pay.

She had been charged $2600 (has to pay well over $1000 after her insurance paid). What would it have cost at my office as one of my patients? $67.22. Yes, that’s all!

And Kelly knows that we draw labs for people who are not our patients. If someone had come with the same lab order, it would have cost them $270 at my office.

Go to www.PineCreekFamMed.com/services and click on the first link to check out our lab price sheet. We offer many more labs – just get an order from your provider and give us a call.

Spread the word! We can save people from the jaw-dropping experience of opening a hospital lab bill.

“I can’t afford the blood tests my doctor wants,” Carrie complained. “Last time it was over $600!”

Sandy nodded. “I know how you feel,” she said. “But I’ve found a better way.”

“Tell me more,” Carrie prompted.

“I have been going to Dr. Herrington’s office,” she said. “I’m not one of her patients, but I can get blood tests for a great price. My doctor writes the orders, and I make an appointment for the blood test. The nurse, Linda, is great, and I’m in and out of the office in just a few minutes.”

“That sounds too good to be true,” Carrie said. “How do I find out what the blood tests will cost me?”

Sandy pulled out a folded blue card, handing it to Carrie. “Check out the link. You won’t believe how cheap the prices are. My labs usually run about $300 at the hospital, but they were $95 at Dr. Herrington’s office last time.”

“Thanks!” Carrie exclaimed. “Maybe I will get those blood tests after all!”

“I have bad veins. Everyone has trouble drawing blood from me,” is something we often hear.

Linda, my RN, is a whiz at drawing blood. But we have a new tool which makes her even better at it.

She draws blood on my patients, as well as on others who have a lab order from their own providers. Come have her check out your veins!

I did it for science. I ate a funnel cake with cinnamon sugar, on an empty stomach, at 2:15 pm today.

I’m wearing a CGM (continuous glucose monitor). I am not diabetic, and I was getting a little arrogant that my sugar rarely went above 140.

Well…. It took time, but my sugar skyrocketed. This CGM (Stelo) doesn’t report numbers above 250 (or below 70), so I don’t know how high it really went. But my glucose sat at “more than 250” for about half an hour! (The blip at the end is when I ate supper.)

Imagine how many times people have this each day…. Eating a donut. Drinking a sweetened coffee drink, drinking soda, eating snacks, eating desserts.

So how do you get a CGM? If you are diabetic, occasionally insurance will pay for it. But if not, here are some options:

If your doctor will write for “Freestyle Libre 3,” you can get it through GoodRx at the pharmacy for about $75 locally for one month (two sensors). Check with your pharmacy. It’s cheaper than what’s listed on GoodRx.

Or there are two non-prescription options.
Stelo (from Dexcom). It’s $99 per month, but cheaper if you subscribe.
And Lingo by Abbott, also about $99 per month. It’s only compatible with IPhone 11 or higher at this point.

Many of my patients have found it enlightening to wear a CGM occasionally. Others don’t want their eyes opened to what they are doing to their bodies. But with knowledge comes the ability to change.

THREE YEARS ago today Pine Creek Family Medicine opened its doors. It's been an amazing adventure!

I love my DPC (Direct Primary Care) practice. I'm practicing REAL medicine, FREE from the oversight of insurance companies. I often spend an hour with my patients... what a luxury for all of us!

On my busiest day, I saw 12 patients! I used to see 16 to 20+ patients per day when I was in traditional medicine.

This is the way Medicine should be!
