BICC was established in 2013 to promote the highest standards of treatment for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) through the development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of all aspects of the certification and certification renewal processes. BICC is an independent and autonomous governing body for the Board Certified Autism Technician (BCAT) credential program. The BCAT
is the only certification in the world for behavior therapists that is accredited by the National Commission of Certifying Agencies (NCCA) and also autism-specific. Certification as a BCAT demonstrates autism-specific competency and a commitment to consumer safety by individuals who treat the deficits and behaviors associated with ASD, using the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA) under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, licensed psychologist, or other licensed professional acting within the scope of his or her license. Currently, just over 800 individuals across the United States and internationally are certified to use the BCAT designation. That number is expected to grow rapidly as a result of the new accreditation by NCCA and the fact that Tricare is now accepting the BCAT credential.
