After a break for vacations, our weekly blog is back. Today's topic is for everyone who gets wildly uncomfortable when people compliment them. Enjoy!

How many of you have a hard time accepting compliments? I hear this a lot, but not just in sessions. I also hear this from friends and family, and I often struggle with this as well. To be clear, I’m not talking about feeling uncomfortable because of inappropriate or harassing statements. Of cours...

Had to share this. Boundaries aren’t ultimatums, they are what we set when we are firm regarding what we are willing or not willing to do.

We often think of boundaries as rules we impose on others, like, “You can’t just drop by unannounced.” But this view can leave us feeling powerless—dependent on others’ willingness to comply.

In reality, boundaries are most effective when they’re seen not as ultimatums for other people, but as commitments we make to ourselves. They enable us to clarify how we will act in alignment with our values—how we’ll care for our time, energy, and wellbeing in a given situation.

This shift—from external control to internal clarity—is empowering. It helps us move from blame to responsibility, from resentment to self-respect.

What are your values? Depending on the context, this question can result in a variety of different types of answers. In therapy, figuring out values is often an important component because values serve as a direction to live our lives. I often use the metaphor of a map when I discuss values with cli

Don't rest on this important topic.

A shout-out to all of the 40-somethings who saw the title of this blog and sang, “Well you’re never gonna get it.” Sleep is what we’re looking at today because it is so much more important than most people realize. A quick thank you to Lois Harmon for this blog idea. I was previously a schoo...

Like the Notorious B.I.G. says, "Mo money, mo problems"

I wanted to give a quick shoutout to Natasha for recommending this timely topic (partly in hopes that she and the other RSC clinicians feel encouraged to keep throwing fresh ideas my way). You can’t turn on the news or scroll through social media without seeing information about the economy, infla...
