Happy Halloween. Today's blog is intended to make finding a counselor a little less scary.

Making the decision to pursue counseling is not an easy thing. By the time someone reaches out to us, this decision has usually been on their mind for a long time. I have no data to reference for this, but I would imagine that it would be very rare for a person to simply think, “Well this isn’t ...

Please help us as we welcome a new counselor to Restorative Solutions Counseling!

“My name is Jessica Bailey, and I recently earned my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University. I have developed a strong passion for supporting moms through their postpartum journeys, as well as helping couples reconnect and strengthen their communication. In addition, I have experience working with children, young adults, and individuals navigating challenges related to depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. My counseling style is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Person-Centered Therapy, though I integrate techniques from various other approaches to best meet each client’s unique needs. I believe in meeting clients where they are and recognizing that healing is not one-size-fits-all.”

Jessica will be joining our team in December.

When was the last time you felt overwhelmed? Was it last month, last week, or maybe just 15 minutes ago? It seems like there’s a lot of that going around, especially right now because the news and political stuff is right up in our faces. My personal definition of overwhelm is when there is so muc...

This blog comes with a complimentary dad joke at the very beginning. Enjoy.

Son: “Dad, can you give me a hand?” Dad: “Sorry, bud. They’re both attached to me.”  I just couldn’t help myself. As I was thinking through what I wanted to say on the topic the dad-joke was just sitting there waiting. While our attachment to others may not be literal, like this lit...

I just finished reading a thought-provoking article in Psychology Today Magazine. The author, Carolyn Sharp, noted that the couples she counsels often come in wanting a quick fix for relationship struggles. I tend to think that most people understand that fixing problems takes work, but there is no

One of my favorite lines from Homer Simpson is, “ I used to rock and roll all night and party every day. Then it was every other day. Now I’m lucky if I can find half an hour a week in which to get funky. ” There are only so many hours in a day, and I’m afraid that getting funky must, at tim...

Guess what parents. Our new couch is nice and comfy. Unfortunately, we can’t promise that your kids won’t come out and mess with you if you take a nap while you wait for them.

Something that I’ve noticed about us humans is that most of us try to be nice. Given the opportunity to help someone or be kind, we tend to take it. Of course it depends on the situation, the context, and the other people involved, but in spite of the many times that I’ve seen someone do somethi...

I am frequently asked about alternative treatments for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) other than medications. This question usually comes from parents, who request information for different reasons: They may worry about medicating their child with a stimulant, which are the most

I just finished reading Brene Brown’s book, Braving the Wilderness . I’m a big fan of hers, and just like her other books, I found this one to be fantastic. It speaks to our desire to fit in and belong, and how sometimes that rubs against our need to be true to ourselves and stand apart from the...
