There’s no shortage of news in our busy little county, but with only one news reporter and one sports reporter on staff, it’s a challenge to be everywhere at once. That’s where you come in.
The Panola Watchman is seeking local freelancers for writing and photography assignments in both news and sports. If you enjoy covering community events, telling local stories, or capturing moments behind the camera, we’d love to have your help keeping Panola County informed.
Freelance opportunities are available for writers and photographers. We’ll pay you for your time, your words, and your eye for a good photo — whether it’s a quick event write-up, a feature story, or a photo gallery that captures the heart of our community.
Our rates for stringers start at $50 per event-coverage story and $60 for feature stories. Photos are compensated depending on the quality and quantity of photos, with rates ranging from $25 to $40.
No journalism degree? No problem. If you’ve got curiosity, reliability, and a knack for storytelling or snapping great images, you could see your byline or photo credit in print.
Interested? Reach out to our managing editor, Amber Lollar, at amber.lollar@thehendersonnews.com, or Panola Watchman reporter, Elizabeth Pinkston, at elizabeth.pinkston@panolawatchman.com to learn how you can help keep local news flowing.
