🚨 Public Health Reminder: Rabies in Our Area 🚨
We want to make everyone aware that a raccoon in our community has tested positive for rabies, and a dog that encountered the animal is now in quarantine as required by local health regulations.
Rabies is a serious, fatal virus that can be transmitted through the bite or saliva of an infected animal. While not common, wildlife such as raccoons, skunks, foxes, and bats can carry it.
This is a great reminder to check your pet’s rabies vaccination status! Keeping your cats, dogs (and ferrets, where applicable) up to date on their shots is one of the most effective ways to protect them and your family.
🐾 Tips for safety:
• Avoid contact with wild or strange animals.
• Keep pets supervised and on a leash outdoors.
• If you see an animal acting strangely or aggressively, contact local animal control.
• If your pet may have been exposed, contact your vet right away.
Let’s keep our pets (and our neighbors) safe! 🐶🐱
