In addition to offering general orthopedic care, Dr. Sherrod focused the practice on innovative treatments in sports medicine, physical therapy, and rehabilitation. Over the last decade, we have expanded our services to encompass a comprehensive musculoskeletal continuum including total joint replacement, arthroscopy, sports medicine, fracture care, reconstructive hip, knee, foot and ankle surgery, hand surgery, spine surgery, neuromusculoskeletal care, physical medicine and rehabilitation, electrodiagnosis, and community outreach services. In recent years, the practice has developed a reputation for understanding and responding to the unique needs of the injured worker and the employer. Watauga Orthopaedics places an emphasis on access to care, timely and complete communication, and consistent cost effective treatment plans and protocols for all injured workers. Watauga Orthopaedics is among a small number of practices in Tennessee that offer the expertise of treating athletic injuries within the scope of sports medicine. Since 1950 when Dr. Sherrod became a team physician for East Tennessee State University, we have added considerably to our sports medicine staff, which enables us to offer services to a wide variety of athletic teams. Watauga Orthopaedics acts as the team physicians for many high schools in Northeast Tennessee and Southwest Virginia. Additionally, Watauga Orthopaedics has provided sports medicine services for the following athletic organizations: East Tennessee State University, Virginia Intermont College, Milligan College, Atlanta Falcons, Johnson City Cardinals, Elizabethton Twins, Bristol Tigers, Kingsport Mets, and Johnson City Silver Bullett's Rugby Team, as well as for the Masters Water Ski Tournament and several professional and Olympic athletes.

To help train future generations of physician assistants (PAs), Watauga Orthopaedics offers a 6-month post-graduate fellowship program . PAs receive specialty training in the field of nonsurgical orthopedics and orthopedic surgery from our board-certified orthopedic providers and surgeons.
