🎉 BINGO, BINGO, BINGO! 🎉

The fun was rolling at bingo with Woodall-Anderson & Dugger Funeral Home and Appalachian Funeral Home! Our Future Care Advisor Jill Strawn always enjoys seeing the smiling faces of our community and sharing some laughs along the way.

Of course, it wouldn’t be bingo without Tony Barnes, who’s always the life of the party representing the Gray Community Chest!

We truly love being part of opportunities that give back to the community and bring people together. Events like this also allow us to connect with some wonderful folks including Beverly Painter with Life Care Centers of Gray, Elizabethton & Greeneville, Donna Campbell with Oasis Senior Advisors, and Tammie from American House in Kingsport.

It’s always a great day when you can share smiles, laughter, and a few rounds of bingo with such amazing people. 💙

Every life tells a story—and no two are the same.

The way we celebrate someone’s life should reflect who they truly were: their personality, their passions, their quirks, and the moments that made them unforgettable.

A meaningful service isn’t about fitting into a template—it’s about honoring a life lived in a way that feels personal, authentic, and real.

Because the most beautiful tributes aren’t “standard”… they’re one of a kind. 💜

Today we’re giving a special shout-out to David Mathes, Manager, Funeral Director, and Embalmer at Appalachian Funeral Home.

With 40 years in the funeral profession, David has worn many hats and served countless families with compassion, dedication, and heart. He’s not only a trusted professional but also a loving husband, devoted father, and a friend to many in our community.

David and his wife of 12 years, Lisa, who serves others at Karing Hearts Cardiology in Johnson City, have built a wonderful family together. Lisa’s daughter Lily is a go getter on the basketball court, and David’s son Ian a senior at SHHS a true athlete continues to inspire everyone with his strength and determination after last year’s football injury.

When they’re not busy serving the community or cheering from the sidelines, the Mathes family enjoys making memories together at Folly Beach & Watauga Lake.

Thank you, David, for four decades of dedication and service. We are proud to have you as part of the Appalachian Funeral Home family. If you know someone in our community who goes above and beyond in giving back, we would love to hear about them! 🌟

Giving back to the ones who always show up for us 🚒🍩
Today, David W. Mathes, Manager, Funeral Director & Embalmer had the chance to drop off some donuts for our local fire stations as a small thank you for everything they do to keep our community safe. It’s a simple gesture, but it comes with a whole lot of appreciation.
Fun fact: our stations aren’t just numbers they’ve got some great nicknames too:
• Station 1 – The Black Sheep Crew
• Station 2 – The Deuces
• Station 4 – The Fighting Four
• Station 7 – The Wolves of Walnut
To all our firefighters: we see you, we appreciate you, and we’re grateful for your dedication every single day. Stay safe out there! 🔥👨‍🚒👩‍🚒
