Inaugurated in 1999, the Washington County ~ Johnson City EMS Honor Guard became the first and only EMS based Honor Guard in the State of Tennessee at the time. Although, the Honor Guard was comprised of full time employees of Washington County ~ Johnson City EMS, the Honor Guard was initially founded and formed under the Washington County Rescue Services. r the umbrella of EMS and is listed on the National Honor Guard Commanders website, located at: www.nhgca.com
The Honor Guard’s primary functions include, but are not limited to: Emergency Services Funeral Details, any Opening Ceremonies of formal EMS Functions, and Holiday occasions such as the Johnson City Christmas Parade, and ceremonies conducted on Veterans Day & Patriot’s Day. In the past, the Honor Guard has also been asked to step in and assist other area agencies in their loss of an employee or member. The Honor Guard is comprised of full and part time Washington County ~ Johnson City EMS employees who have shown an interest and dedication to the Honor Guard and EMS as a whole. The functions and events performed by the Honor Guard are to be approved through the Chain of Command, outlined in the bylaws, and shall promote Washington County ~ Johnson City EMS. Commander, a First Sergeant, and 2 Drill Sergeants. The Commander reports directly to the EMS Director for approval and direction.
