🌿 **Honoring Native American Day – Wisdom for Modern Wellness** 🌿

Today we honor the rich traditions and resilience of Indigenous peoples across this land. Their wisdom offers timeless practices that support health and balance—tools we can all learn from and respectfully apply in our own lives:

✨ **Ritual & the Nervous System**
Indigenous traditions often weave rhythm, prayer, drumming, and ceremony into daily life. These rituals help train the nervous system, promoting calm, resilience, and connection to community and nature. Modern science confirms what Indigenous peoples have always known—ritual regulates stress and supports healing.

🌱 **Herbal Medicines with Indigenous Roots**
Many herbs we use today carry a long history of Native use:

* **Echinacea** – used for immune strength and wound healing
* **Willow bark** – a traditional pain reliever, the origin of aspirin
* **Yarrow** – to stop bleeding and support digestion
* **Juniper berries & cedar** – for cleansing and respiratory health

🌎 **Connection to Land & Seasons**
Indigenous health practices emphasize living in harmony with the land, respecting seasonal rhythms, and maintaining balance between body, spirit, and environment.

At **Ageless Integrative Medicine**, we celebrate this wisdom and integrate it into care through herbal medicine, ritual-based approaches for stress reduction, and natural methods to restore balance.

📍 Join us in honoring Native American Day by reflecting on the healing traditions that connect us all to nature and community.

🌿 Parasite Cleansing: A Balanced Perspective 🌿

Both April and I (Seth) grew up spending time in the Dominican Republic, where it was common for kids to take Vermox (mebendazole) to manage intestinal parasites. Over the years, I’ve also worked with many of the classic herbal antiparasiticals as part of digestive health care.

But here’s what newer research tells us: too much cleansing can backfire. Excessive parasite or “gut cleansing” may actually increase IgA levels, which can raise the risk of conditions like eczema, atopic dermatitis, and asthma.

The truth is—we’re meant to be an ecosystem. Diversity in our gut microbiome is protective, not harmful.

✨ If your goal is to rebalance gut flora, here are three simple, research-backed steps we recommend:

1️⃣ Herbal Biotic (by Heron Botanicals) – use for 1–2 weeks as a reset.
2️⃣ Demulcent herbs like slippery elm – these help rebuild the gut’s mucus layer, especially if you’ve used anti-inflammatories.
3️⃣ Fermented foods – add 2 tablespoons of your favorite lacto-fermented food to meals. These provide 40+ beneficial bacteria and yeasts, prebiotics, and lactic acid that all support healthy digestion.

👉 Once you’ve done those steps, a gentle parasite cleanse (such as a kit from Renew Life) can sometimes be supportive—but it’s not the foundation.

💡 Remember: A perfectly “clean” gut is not the goal. The goal is balance, resilience, and diversity.

✨ **Integrative Medicine for Dark Circles Under the Eyes** ✨

Dark circles can come from many causes—genetics, fatigue, allergies, poor circulation, or even skin thinning with age. Instead of covering them up, integrative medicine looks at ways to support the body inside and out.

**Herbal & Nutritional Support**

* **Grape Seed Extract** – rich in antioxidants that help strengthen fragile blood vessels.
* **Horse Chestnut** – supports healthy circulation and may reduce under-eye puffiness.
* **Hesperidin (a citrus bioflavonoid)** – helps improve capillary tone and reduce pooling under the eyes.
* **Vitamin C & Collagen Support** – provide the raw materials your skin needs for repair and resilience.
* **Iron & B-Complex Vitamins** – can be important if fatigue or anemia play a role.

**Self-Care Tools**

* **Lymphatic Massage** – gentle tapping or sweeping motions from the inner corner of the eyes outward can encourage drainage and reduce puffiness.
* **Cold Compresses or Chilled Tea Bags** – simple, soothing ways to constrict blood vessels and refresh the skin.
* **Sleep & Hydration** – the basics matter. Adequate rest and water intake can make a noticeable difference.

Aesthetic Medicine Approaches
Seth frequently uses a dermal filler, Volbella. While Volbella lasts a year in lips, it fills in undereye hollows for up to 18 months. Stop having to wear concealer all the time! Even a 1/2 syringe can make a difference for mild cases. That's only $300. Deeper hollows may require a full syringe.

At Ageless Integrative Medicine, we combine these natural strategies with in-office options like skin rejuvenation treatments and individualized supplement support to help patients look and feel their best.
