Positive parenting is great but reality can be really hard.

Especially when your child’s meltdowns are continuing to get more intense, more creative, and more unpredictable - and all those strategies that work for other kids don’t seem to work for yours.

It’s okay to laugh in the insanity of it all. It’s okay to cry about it being so hard. And it’s okay to get help when you need it.

It’s messy and beautiful and exhausting and incredible and there’s no amount of education that will stop hard days - and that’s okay.

So much frustration for us and our kids come from us expecting that they can do something they aren’t developmentally ready for.

And remember: what a young child can do in a calm one-on-one environment is different than what the are capable of in high stress moments - like getting out of the door in the morning or waiting to get through the grocery line.

Of course it’s not easy - but all the extra “you should be doing this or your child will end up like this” is not helpful - and very often not true.

Take what feels good online, ignore the stuff that doesn’t. You know your child best. ❤️

We don’t need to psychoanalyze their response and assume they are storing some unaddressed trauma or unanswered questions.

They probably just got the answer they needed and are ready for the next thing - and it’s almost always snacks.

Let them know they can always come talk to you if they need to and dish out the cheese sticks.
