Grief is a heavy burden for little hearts. Today, in honor of Children's Grief Awareness Day, we dedicate ourselves to acknowledging the unique needs of young grievers and ensuring they never feel alone.

At Rainbow Community Care, our Bereavement Team profoundly believes in the power of stories to help children process complex, overwhelming emotions associated with loss.

We wanted to re-share the list of wonderful books they have reviewed and highly recommend as essential resources for children who have experienced a loss. These stories can open up gentle conversations and provide comfort during difficult times.

📚Click the link below to explore the full list of books reviewed by our team:

To parents, caregivers, and community members: We know that providing support for a grieving child can be overwhelming. Please remember that you do not have to navigate this journey alone. If you are seeking guidance or need to connect with a professional: 📞 Please call us at (920) 674-6255 and ask to speak to one of the members of our Bereavement team.

We are here to help you, and the children you care for, find comfort, hope, and support.

When decorating your Christmas tree brings you to tears or when your ideal holiday gathering is staying home alone in your pajamas, a different sort of Christmas event may meet your needs this season as you grieve. In this month's Conversations in Grief blog, Rainbow Bereavement Coordinator/Chaplain Laura Wessels explores the purpose behind Blue Christmas services, gives dates and locations of local services, and provides ideas for creating your own service.

Happy National Nurse Practitioner Week! 🩺💙

This week (November 9th–15th) is dedicated to recognizing the incredible contributions of NPs, and we couldn't let it go by without celebrating the exceptional and compassionate care provided by the best in the business right here at Rainbow Community Care.

Their ability to meet patients where they are—both geographically and across their health care journey—makes Nurse Practitioners truly essential to the future of health care. This year’s NP Week theme, “NPs: Trusted Voices, Proven Care,” perfectly reflects the deep relationships they form and the proven outcomes associated with their expertise.

We are so thankful to have these dedicated professionals as part of our team:
Shauna Lambrecht, Sarah Stewart, Bethany Berg, Megan Klarner, Amber Bladorn, and Ashley Rydquist-Acker.

Thank you for all you do and the profound impact you make in our communities each day! As the NP profession continues to grow—now including over 461,000 licensed NPs nationwide—local communities like ours are recognizing the immense value of these compassionate, skilled individuals.

Join us in thanking them! Drop them a kind word in the comments below.

We know the holidays can be a challenging time, and we hope the program offered a supportive space for reflection and connection. Our goal is to help you find meaningful ways to both navigate your grief and honor the memory of your loved one as the season approaches.

A special thank you to our entire dedicated Bereavement Team—Laura Wessels, Hilary Furnish, and Terry Hein—for their hard work and compassion. We would also like to thank Christine Falkner, Mark Hoggatt, and Eric Chesney for sharing their beautiful musical talents throughout the program, adding a powerful layer of solace and reflection.

If you were unable to attend, a free booklet, "Grief and the Holidays: Experiencing the Holidays and Special Occasions Without a Loved One," is available. Please call Rainbow Community Care at (920) 674-6255 to request your copy.

Our veteran pinning ceremonies at Rainbow truly warm our hearts. These events are about more than just a pin; they are a profound opportunity to express our deepest gratitude for the incredible service and sacrifice made for our country.

We understand that this commitment often meant time away from loved ones. That's why these ceremonies are often a family affair. When a veteran serves, their family sacrifices too, and we are honored to recognize them all.

We are proud to share these recent moments from our pinning ceremonies.

Since 2014, Rainbow Hospice Care has been a dedicated partner of the We Honor Veterans program—a collaboration between the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization and the Department of Veterans Affairs. Our mission is to increase awareness, improve the quality of life, and ensure every veteran we serve receives the recognition and dignity they deserve at the end of life.

What does service mean to you? Share your thoughts or tag a veteran who inspires you!

A heartfelt salute to our heroes!

We were thrilled to honor our incredible veteran volunteers and employees at the Rainbow Hospice Care Inpatient Center this morning during our special Veterans Breakfast. It was inspiring to see them connect and share stories about their time serving our country.

We deeply appreciate the service and sacrifice of all six of our Rainbow veteran employees and every one of our veteran volunteers. The difference you make in the lives of our patients and families is truly profound.

A special thank you also goes out to our amazing staff and volunteers who hand-delivered greeting cards, pins, and cupcakes to all the veterans currently on our service in honor of Veterans Day.

Thank you for your service!

National Hospice and Palliative Care Month is celebrated every November to raise awareness about the importance of comfort, quality of life, and talking with loved ones about preferences as we age and become seriously ill.

Today, the staff and volunteers of Rainbow Community Care would like to pause a moment to express our gratitude to the thousands of patients, families, and healthcare professionals who have placed their trust in our hospice teams since 1990. Together, we have turned Jefferson County into a place where a higher percentage of people choose to involve hospice in their final days, weeks, and months than anywhere else in Wisconsin!

Likewise, we’d like to thank the many people who have turned to our palliative care team for help when navigating the complex world of serious illness. When we first launched this community-based program a decade ago, we only cared for about 13 patients and families a day on average. Today, that number has increased to nearly 160!
