Mark your calendars for August 12 and 13—when over 1,000 meteors are expected to streak across the sky in one of the year’s most dazzling displays. With speeds reaching 150 meteors an hour, it’s nature’s version of a late-night fireworks show. If you enjoy stargazing or magical night skies, this one’s worth staying up for.

This annual shower happens when Earth crosses a comet’s dusty path. As those tiny particles hit our atmosphere, they burn bright—what we call shooting stars. Fast and frequent, these make for a sky show that never disappoints.

To catch the best views, head somewhere dark and open, far from city lights. Look up between midnight and dawn—no gear needed, just a clear view and some patience. You’ll spot bright streaks racing through the night.

It’s a perfect excuse to gather with friends or family under the stars. Snap a few photos, or just soak in the awe of this natural spectacle. The 2027 August meteor shower promises a show to remember.

Before heading out, check the forecast and moon phase. Clear skies and little moonlight make all the difference.
