As a health care provider in the lactation field, continuing the fight for equity and human rights is not optional and requires action. It is part of my responsibility to the families I serve to advocate for their safety, rights, and well-being.

Dr. King's legacy reminds me that creating change happens in everyday spaces, including lactation. These principles are foundational to my practice.

In a time when many feel uncertain or excluded, my practice remains a safe, inclusive space for people of color, LGBTQ+ families, and other marginalized communities. Everyone deserves compassionate and evidence-based lactation care.

ATRX Awareness day is around the corner on May 10th. I love my little warrior and he is so strong and brave. It’s a rare disorder affecting roughly 300-400 people internationally and we still have so much to learn.

This disorder affects Jonah by causing global delays, clubfeet, bilateral coloboma of the pupil and retina, micropthalmia of the right eye, and polydactyl of the right hand. This disorder is also an Autism Spectrum Disorder so Jonah also has sensory issues and sleep issues. In his 2 short years, Jonah has had 3 surgeries, 1 hospital stay (not including surgeries), 5 ER visits, weekly therapy appointments with 5 different therapist, and follows up with 7 different specialist.
Most recently Jonah has been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and will need oxygen at night and might possibly undergo surgery later this year.

Jonah influences all that I do and has given me valuable personal experience to help parents navigate NICU stays, exclusive pumping, getting babies back to the breast, sensory needs during feeding, low weight gain, bottle refusals, navigating feelings around being your child sole source of nutrition/hydration, and finding resources for families with special needs.

Today is and is a wonderful organization that highlights rare diseases.

My son Jonah has a rare disease called ATRX which causes global delays and sometimes physical anomalies. Despite the challenges Jonah faces, he continues to be a strong, brave, happy boy.

Due to it being a rare genetic disease we are still learning about this disorder and how it affects our children. For Jonah specifically he was born visually impaired, with bilateral clubfeet, and an extra thumb on his right hand. He has feeding challenges, low tone, gastrointestinal discomfort, and he has the gross motor skills of a 4-5 month old. He has had 3 surgeries in his 2 years of life, one being a g-tube surgery to force fee him and help him gain weight. We continue to work with to improve his quality of life and for me as a parent to have the tools to help Jonah succeed. Jonah is but one example why is so important and a much needed resource to families. The recent cuts to the EI budget have left everyone, families and providers, heartbroken. Early intervention equals equity.

Meet Noelle!

Noelle Dimas is a dedicated International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and the owner of Mums Lactation in Loveland. As an IBCLC, Noelle can help with all lactation related concerns and she specializes in low milk supply and bottle refusals in infants up to 6 months old. A mother of three, she understands the demands of both family life and breastfeeding. In her spare time, Noelle enjoys reading and crocheting.
