Social Media Policy

Policy: SWiTCH Mental Health Services providers will act ethically and not cross therapeutic boundaries by engaging with clients via social media platforms. Purpose: To ensure providers act in an ethical manner that is conducive to the therapeutic process. To ensure that client/provider boundaries remain established within the therapeutic relationship. To ensure that client information is not unintentionally serviced via a social media platform or unsecured server. Procedure:

SWiTCH Mental Health Services has a Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram business page for professional practice but clients of SWiTCH Mental Health Services are in no way obligated to follow these pages. Clients are welcome to follow these pages and post and/or even ‘like’ the page. However, no SWiTCH Mental Health Services provider will engage in any form of individual therapy or help via these social media platforms. No SWiTCH Mental Health Services provider will accept friends or contact requests from any active clients on their personal Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram accounts nor for a minimum period of 2 years following a client’s discharge from services. Clients will be informed of the policy and asked to sign the Social Media Policy form at the time of intake. If issues arise, providers should review the policy with the client and make every effort to maintain therapeutic boundaries and communication.
