Did you know that obesity is often associated with other serious chronic conditions including high blood pressure, diabetes, stroke, heart failure, or heart disease? Research from the American Heart Association shows that deaths from obesity-related heart disease have increased by nearly 180% from 1999 to 2020!

As the link between obesity and heart disease continues to grow, it’s important to remember that bariatric care is a lot more than just about losing weight—it's about long-term cardiovascular health and reducing serious health risks tied to excess weight.

This is an important reminder that bariatric options can be part of a comprehensive approach to better health, helping lower risks for heart disease and other chronic conditions, not just supporting weight loss goals. Learn more about your options at WesternPennsylvaniaBariatricInstitute.com.

“For so long, my life was so stressful and painful. Now, it’s so wonderful. I can’t put a price tag on it. It’s beyond my wildest dreams.”

When she took her 6-year-old son to the park to play, Kim Randall would have to watch from her car. The pain and stress of weighing more than 535 pounds was simply too much for her to bear.

“Weighing that much is so constantly painful. Not being able to move around, go to school functions, worrying about the weight capacity of a chair, or having a steering wheel or seatbelt cutting into me.”

But today, Kim proudly shares her transformation and now weighs more than 300 pounds less than before her visit with the Western Pennsylvania Bariatric Institute.

“I’ve shed the equivalent of two people. So much has changed; big and little things. I'm able to do small things that most people take for granted, like walking without crying in pain, cleaning my house and walking my dog,” Kim said. “I realize what a blessing I’ve received. The pain and suffering are all gone.”

“It has transformed my energy level, my personality, and the way I come across and present myself. It’s changed everything.”
