Tonight they planned their cooking foil packs for the next meeting, learned the different nutritional parts of MyPlate, and of course played some games!

This month’s Park Profile highlights Kayla Thomas, our Human Resources Assistant!

Tell us a little about yourself:
I married my best friend right after our high school graduation, and now I am a hockey/baseball mom of two amazing boys!

When did you join the team here at Arbutus?
I started my job here at Arbutus in May of 2025.

What is your favorite thing about APRC?
The residents of course! I love when they pop in the HR office for a visit!

What goals do you have for your role?
I am always striving for constant growth - I want to learn as much as I can and continue to improve upon my skills.

When you are not at work, what do you like to do?
I am very into fitness and weight-lifting. But if I am taking a day off from the gym, I am usually curled up somewhere with a good book.

If you were to win the lottery, what would be your first purchase?
I would probably buy a new car.

If you had to live in a different state, which would it be and why?
Florida! My husband and I traveled there for the first time and I fell in love with it there!

What is your favorite film? Why?
Any of the Harry Potter movies. I have read the books more times than I can count. I consider myself a huge nerd when it comes to that series!

You are up next for karaoke - what song are you singing?
I will sing just about anything....as long as it is not country.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever been given?
That everything happens for a reason!

What is something that very few people know about you?
I am completely new to HR. All of my previous training and employment has been on the clinical side of the operation, so this role was a new experience for me when I started!

Thanks for being a part of the APRC team, Kayla! We are happy to have you!
