The Arbutus Park Star of the month for November is Fred Wagner. Fred joined our APRC family for further care and therapy in July. He was admitted to the hospital with aspiration pneumonia (food and liquids were going into his lungs), respiratory issues and deconditioning in May and June.

Fred participated in the completion of speech therapy sessions to address swallowing and chewing function to assist with upgrading his diet texture. Fred was on a puree diet with honey thickened liquids when he was first admitted to Arbutus Park Manor. Fred utilized compensatory swallowing strategies during meals to assist with decreasing his risk of coughing and choking during meals. Fred also worked very hard with completing strengthening exercises to maximize his swallowing function.

Fred has demonstrated progression for speech therapy goals to return to a mechanical soft diet with ground meats and regular liquids. Fred is enjoying his food daily with no difficulty and has gained weight since his admission to Arbutus Park Manor! We are blessed to have Fred as part of our family!
