He enjoyed golfing, motorcycles, snowmobiles and was a very good athlete during high school, playing quarterback for the football team, and basketball and baseball. He loved animals all his life, from raising cattle during 4-H as a youth to having pets throughout his life, including Toby, the little white pup he shared with Jo.

Rodger Stanton Streed, 89, of Platteville, Colorado, passed away during the early morning hours of Wednesday, Sept. 3, at the Pathways Inpatient Center in Fort Collins. His wife and daughter were at his side.

Rodger was born April 11, 1936, in Wheatland, WY, and came as a young child with his parents, Lloyd and Reba Stanton Streed, to Denver, where they lived in the Capital Hill area. During summers and weekends, Rodger would spend time at the Stanton homestead in Platteville. Following graduation from South High School in Denver, he moved to Platteville permanently and helped his Uncle Wallace with the farm.

Rodger married Janet Kay Sitzman August 20, 1972, in Platteville. They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary two weeks before his passing. Their greatest joy was welcoming their daughter Kristine Dawn (Kristi) into their lives in October of 1974.

As a young man, Rodger served in the Colorado Air National Guard, which eventually led to his working as an air traffic controller at the Enroute Air Traffic Control Center in Longmont, CO. When President Reagan fired union controllers in August of 1981, Rodger and his family experienced the blessings of more normal schedules and weekends, and more time with friends and family. He capped his working career in the insurance industry, where his continued hard work earned him many awards and accolades.

Throughout his professional career Rodger worked to maintain and improve the family farm. His greatest joy was time with family, followed by his immense love of the outdoors and the land. Rodger was an avid gardener, and his knowledge and enthusiasm for the same inspired others to try their hand at growing vegetables. His other interests included small game hunting, fishing, photography, collecting antiques, and traveling with friends and family. He had an extensive knowledge of Colorado and its history and proved himself an informed and fun tour guide. Rodger was a great conversationalist, no matter what the topic, and family and friends were amazed by his recollection of names and dates, even as his physical health failed.

Rodger sold most of his farm ground in 2000, and the builder named the subdivision Rodger’s Farm. He retained enough land to still garden and enjoy the great outdoors. In 2007 he and Janet had their retirement home built on their farm where cattle corrals and haystacks once stood.

Rodger’s family, especially his wife and daughter, as well as many friends, are extremely grateful and blessed to have had this wonderfully kind, compassionate, intelligent, and generous man grace their lives.

Rodger was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, uncle, and younger brother Ronald Streed.

Left to share their memories of Rodger and his sharp wit and dry humor are his wife, Janet; daughter Kristi and her husband Scott Rankin, brother Ric Streed and wife Priscilla; sister-in-law, Rose Streed; his wife’s sister-in-law, Kris Sitzman, and a large group of dear and cherished friends.

Rodger’s graveside service will be held at Mizpah Cemetery, Platteville, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2025. A luncheon will follow at the Platteville Community Center.

Those who wish may donate in Rodger’s memory to “Crossroads School” in Longmont, or to the “Platteville Historical Museum” in care of Young’s Funeral Service, 102 East Charotte Street, Johnstown CO 80534. Condolences may be shared at youngsfunerals.com.
