One of the city’s most famous traditions is the dyeing of the Chicago River bright green, followed by the downtown St. Patrick’s Day Parade along Columbus Drive. Sleep paralysis can be a frightening experience. It happens when you wake up or fall asleep but temporarily cannot move or speak. Episodes usually last only a few seconds to a few minutes and often resolve on their own.

While occasional sleep paralysis is fairly common, frequent episodes may be worth discussing with a healthcare provider.

Sleep paralysis is a feeling of being conscious but unable to move. During the transition from sleep to wakefulness, you may be unable to move or speak for a few seconds up to a few minutes. You might also feel pressure or a sense of choking, or have hallucinations.

Sleep paralysis is not usually something to worry about. But about 10% of people have recurrent sleep paralysis, which can be a symptom of a more serious problem. https://wb.md/4lfV9ZE

Spring allergy season is starting to ramp up.

If you’ve noticed more sneezing, congestion, itchy eyes, or sinus pressure lately, seasonal allergies may be the reason.

Common symptoms include:
• Sneezing
• Runny or congested nose
• Itchy or watery eyes
• Sinus pressure or headaches
• Fatigue

These symptoms occur when the immune system reacts to airborne allergens like pollen, releasing histamines that lead to inflammation in the nasal passages and sinuses.

If seasonal allergies are making it difficult to get through your day, your healthcare provider can help you explore treatment options to find relief.

Don’t forget to spring forward this weekend!

Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday at 2:00 a.m., meaning clocks move ahead one hour. While many states have pushed to end the twice-a-year clock change, the tradition continues for now.

The good news? Longer evenings and more daylight ahead.

This is the weekend when clocks move ahead, causing angst, lost sleep and health issues for many. Over the last decade, at least 19 states have passed laws to let them stay in daylight saving time if the federal government allows it.

There has been a lot of curiosity around ALS lately, so we wanted to share some helpful information.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often called Lou Gehrig’s disease, is a progressive neurological disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that control voluntary muscle movement. Early symptoms can include muscle weakness, twitching, difficulty walking, or changes in speech.

The initial symptoms of ALS can be quite varied in different people. One person may have trouble grasping a pen or lifting a coffee cup, while another person may experience a change in vocal pitch when speaking.

Heartburn often feels worse at night — and that’s common.

When you lie down, stomach acid can more easily flow back into the esophagus, leading to increased burning, chest discomfort, or a sour taste. Late meals, certain foods, and stress can all make symptoms more noticeable in the evening.

If nighttime reflux is disrupting your sleep or happening frequently, it may be time to talk with your provider. Managing GERD early can help prevent ongoing irritation and protect your long-term health.

As we head into the weekend, it’s a great reminder that rest is productive, too. A truly restful weekend doesn’t just happen — it’s intentional. That might mean putting your phone down for a few hours, getting outside for fresh air, tackling one small task you’ve been avoiding, or simply giving yourself permission to slow down.

Rest isn’t about doing nothing — it’s about doing what actually refuels you.

Wishing you a calm, restorative weekend ahead.

Yes, even if you have s**t to do.
