Celebrating Social Worker Month...Social Work internships, also known as field education, is a key component of any Social Work program. Internships provide students with the opportunity to connect and integrate social work theory and practice in real-world settings. This past year, SHNH partnered with Lewis University and the University of St. Francis as field placement for 3 social work interns, Chyann Hockett, Clarissa Muniz who are overseen by Kaidy Smith, Social Services and Jacob Pangilinan, who is overseen by Kristen Lovell, Director of Life Engagement. It's been such a pleasure to have these interns gain some real-world experience here at Sunny Hill. Wishing them all the best in all future endeavors!
Chyann Hockett is a MSW student at Lewis University. She began her internship at Sunny Hill within the SS department in the Fall of 2025 and plans to graduate in May. Chyann states that her experience has been rewarding and she loves the connections she has made with the residents. This experience has also led to growth in critical skills, such as advocacy. “I found my voice while being here and learned the importance of advocating for others”. In her spare time, Chyann enjoys golfing, spending time outdoors and reading. She is recently engaged and excited for marriage as her next milestone.
Clarissa Muniz is a BSW student at Lewis University. She began her internship at Sunny Hill within the SS department in the Fall of 2025 and plans to graduate in May. Clarissa feels that she has experienced lots of growth throughout this internship and has learned a lot about herself, particularly in the areas of organization, structuring her assignments and professionalism. In her spare time, Clarissa enjoys spending time with her friends and family. She is optimistic about her future and plans to pursue her MSW degree next.
Jacob Pangilinan is a BSW student at the University of St. Francis. He began his internship at Sunny Hill within the Life Engagement department in the Fall of 2025 and plans to graduate in May. Jacob has enjoyed his internship experience, especially participating and facilitating resident groups. “I have appreciated the incredible attendance during the music groups”. Jacob’s states that this internship has helped him learn to be more mindful of the challenges that residents face and offer understanding and patience to each person’s story. In his spare time, Jacob enjoys playing his guitar, which he has done for the residents, and plans to pursue extensive training in. He is eager for the next chapter in his life, including pursuing his MSW degree.
