Stepping Stones Recovery Home for Women and Children in Joliet recently celebrated its opening.

Alcohol misuse doesn’t just affect one person, it impacts families, stability, and the path forward.

This April, we’re highlighting our funded partner, Stepping Stones Treatment Center, and their Extended Residential Treatment program.

April is Alcohol Awareness Month, a time to bring attention to alcohol misuse and the importance of prevention and recovery.

This program provides a structured, supportive living environment where individuals in early recovery can rebuild their lives—establishing routines, returning to work, and developing the tools needed to maintain long-term recovery.

For Ronieca, that support made all the difference. After experiencing relapse, homelessness, and instability, she returned to Stepping Stones ready to make lasting change.

Today, she is working full-time as a nurse, living independently, and continuing her recovery journey.
In 2024, 76 individuals were served through this program with support from United Way of Will County’s Community Grant, providing the structure, support, and care needed for long-term recovery.
