The Will County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition is proud to be attending the Illinois Certification Board Spring Conference this week!

This conference brings together professionals from across the substance use field, including counselors, prevention specialists, and recovery supports, to share knowledge, strengthen skills, and stay current on best practices. We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn, connect, and bring valuable insights back to support our community in Will County.

Have real, honest conversations with your teen about how you really feel when it comes to alcohol. Make it clear that you don’t approve of underage drinking—not just because of rules, but because it can impair judgment, increase risky behaviors, and negatively impact brain development during these critical years.

Teens are more likely to make safer choices when they understand your expectations and the reasons behind them. Creating a space for open, ongoing dialogue helps build trust and gives them the confidence to come to you with questions or concerns. Your voice matters more than you think—don’t underestimate the impact you can have.

If green beer is in your plans today, make sure driving isn’t.
If you drink, don’t drive.

Be involved. Stay engaged. Your presence matters more than you think.

You have the power to help your teen choose not to drink alcohol underage. When you stay connected — asking questions, setting clear expectations, and having open, honest conversations — you’re building trust and reinforcing healthy decision-making.

Prevention starts at home, and your voice can make all the difference.

Remove all distractions and take a few intentional minutes to focus on talking with your teen about avoiding underage alcohol use. Put the phones down, turn off the TV, and create space for a real conversation.

These moments of connection matter more than we realize. When teens feel heard and supported, they are more likely to make safe, healthy choices. You won’t regret taking the time to talk — your guidance and presence make a lasting difference.
