Purpose To Save Lives
HISTORY
In 1994, B.E.S.T. Mark CME Church Joliet, Illinois), before becoming a grassroots, community based not-for-profit organization. Our mission was to build self-esteem in young people and their families by providing positive youth and family development activities at no cost. Mark CME Church Joliet, Illinois. New experiences enlightened many young people and their families. However, there was still several root causes that had families tied to a world of violence and hopelessness. We observed that no one seemed to know how to diffuse this emotion called anger. As a result, violent outburst, physical attacks and even death were the outcome. took a microscopic look at anger. We found in our research that there were three (3) main root causes of anger: hurt, fear and injustice. We looked for available resources and found very little information outside of a Psychologist’s or Psychiatrist’s office. This prompted us to look into written material concerning anger. board members read and made short written summaries of hundreds of books. To our amazement, most of the books came to the same conclusions to reduce anger: counting, deep breaths, meditation and empathetic listening and conversing. We knew in our hearts that young people and their families needed additional, tangible, easy to adopt, methods to reduce whatever was triggering the violence. We began to develop the 101 Anger Management Exercises. A poster of the 101 Anger Management Exercises was designed by students and purchased by hundreds of schools. Then the Anger Management Workshops began. Ninety percent of the participants felt that they could justifiably blame another person for their anger. We found a need to create a program that forced the participant to look at himself/herself and find THEIR individual purpose for being on planet earth, thus, the creation of the Purpose Driven Anger Management/Conflict Resolution Anger Adjusters Workshops. Discovering purpose causes the participant to view obstacles as opportunities. Living a purpose-full life always includes helping someone else
B.E.S.T. has received numerous awards and recognition as a viable source to the community concerning violence prevention. We love what we do, as evidenced in the first five (5) years providing Anger Management services with an all volunteer staff free of charge. Today Anger Adjusters provides workshops and seminars for individuals, schools, institutions, organizations and corporations. We have determined that what we are actually doing is saving lives. It’s our Purpose
