Understanding Emotional Dysregulation in Children
Emotional dysregulation refers to when a child has difficulty managing their emotional responses in ways that are appropriate to the situation. This can look like big reactions to small problems, sudden mood changes, trouble calming down, frequent outbursts, or shutting down when overwhelmed. These behaviors aren’t signs of a “bad” child-they’re signs of a child who needs help building the skills to cope with strong feelings.
Kids experiencing emotional dysregulation may struggle with:

• Handling transitions or changes in routine
• Communicating feelings effectively
• Navigating relationships with peers or family
• Feeling safe and grounded in their own bodies
At Beyond Therapy, we understand that emotional regulation is a learned skill-and many children need extra support developing it.
